REVIEW:
This was an early incarnation of the Moshketeers, who changed their name as their style was changing from straight forward heavy metal to a more aggressive speed metal style. Under the Rapture name, Paul Scozzafava and his band of cohorts recorded several demos, toured with Barren Cross, opened for bands like Sacred Warrior and performed at Cornerstone Festival.Paul Scozzafava.(http://www.holymetal.org/)

Formed as a heavy metal band in the mid-80's under the name Rapture. The band eventually changed their name to The Moshketeers in 1989 to coincide with their progression into a thrash metal band.Rapture were an excellent metal band combining elements of classic metal, speed metal and thrash. Their Singer/Guitarist was a short dude in comparison to the rest of his band, with hair that was as long as he was tall. He commanded the stage and knew how to handle an audience. Their bassist was tall with long blond hair and a monster of a musician. Their drummer seemed to effortlessly put forth those furious double bass assaults. I was impressed. I immediately ordered their "Vacation from Hell" tape from a magazine from a guy named Randy Rocker. Unfortunately the tape never showed up, although my check was cashed. Bummer!, They continued to get more popular over time, touring with band like Barren Cross and opening for the likes of Sacred Warrior. Their new songs continued into thrashier terrain and moved away from the classic metal sound. Eventually, Rapture played their last show at Calvary Chapel, Albuquerque, and announced that they were changing their name to The Moshketeers. It was a funny name, yet it worked for their sound. It was the late 1980's and thanks to bands like Anthrax thrash had began to incorporate more humor and those colorful Bermuda shorts. This was the direction that The Moshketeers were taking. Every time they played a local show, it was packed with fans. Eventually they put out another four song demo, which I also purchased. We were all sure that these guys would be the next big Christian thrash band, along with guys like Deliverance, Believer, The Crucified, and Vengeance Rising. The Moshketeers were opening for many of these bands and pulling in just about as many fans. Rumors began flying that the Moshketeers were signing with Intense Records, who were also home to some of the aforementioned bands. Rumors and speculations as to what happened have been around for years, but suffice it to say that it just never happened. In the meantime the band released their full length album "Downward Spiral". This tape featured 11 slabs of prime speed metal and thrash. In my opinion, they sounded like no other thrash band. They incorporated elements of doom ("Self Extinction"), groove ("Grease the Duck") and classic metal ("Nightmares") but were mostly good old American thrash metal. The songs weren't overly technical, but the riffs were unique and somewhat complicated, aided by some outstanding bass work and shredding guitar solos. Paul Scozzafava, along side being a guitarist and singer, was also a preacher. That came across loud and clear in their lyrics. The Moshketeers were unashamed of their faith in Christ, even when sharing the stage with bands like Testament. While nostalgia of a popular local band probably colors my opinion of this album, I have always considered "The Downward Spiral" to be a solid platter from beginning to end. Favorite tracks are "Locked in Chains", "The Myth", "Posers of Deceit", "Nightmares", "The Life of Emptiness" and longtime concert favorite "Ye". "Ye" features a hilariously silly guitar solo that the band milked on the stage. Guitarist Paul Scozzafava is far from a slacker when it comes to lead playing. Unfortunately those not pivy to the joke misunderstood the silliness and ragged on the band for this guitar solo. One listen to the solos in tracks like "Posers of Deceit" and "The Life of Emptiness" should convince any skeptic of Paul's ability to tear up a fretboard. "The Downard Spiral" has always been one of my favorite albums. Decades later and I still play it frequently. I have hoped for years that it would get a proper CD release, perhaps with some bonus tracks from the many demos the band recorded over they years. Remastering is certainly in order. As of 2006 it still hasn't happened, although thankfully, Paul burned me a CDR copy. The Moshketeers broke up for a spell, then in the mid 1990's Paul reformed the band with new members, performed a handful of shows, opening for Ultimatum and P.O.D. They released what was suppose to be a "pre-release" demo. Unfortunately that was as far as they got. Another full length album was never released and the band split. Paul became a full time preacher and is now pastor of Calvary Chapel in Santa Fe,NM(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)

This is a Traditional Heavy/Power Metal. OK I must admit I don't own this mega rare record but I wanted to solve a mystery as many collectors (among them me) started to doubt if "Going insane" really exists. Well, it sure does although it's one of the top US Metal rarities (up there with Paradoxx, Image, Lether Nunn & Street Child). For me this MLP is one of the best items a collector of melodic metal can listen. It is very similar in style with their first LP and contains two excellent songs which are also included in "Final Warning" ("Heavenly metal" & "Where are you"). In my opinion the song "Going insane" is a great US Metal scorcher that highlights this MLP although "We will rock" & "Evil lies" are also great. (A very useful information is that you can download the songs from(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)

Guardian Angel) began with John Yarbrough II and
Don Waite jamming in John's garage. As young teens, they both loved metal music, especially Dokken. They both attended the same youth group and shortly after being saved, began to attend the Warehouse Church in Aurora, IL. Soon they felt that the Lord had called them to find some other guys to complete a metal band that could use music to share the Gospel message. Bobby Lee and Markus Peek completed the band. This demo recording was produced at the Warehouse Church and was engineered by Pastor Randy Schoof. There had been one other recording, produced by Rey Parra, but it never made it past a rough cut.

10-PSALM 117
Sharp professional rock/country-rock private from five Minnesota guys. 'Long Hard Ride' opens the album with an explosive power chord, followed by sprightly banjo, harmonica and a stinging electric lead, sounding not unlike Poco - but with power. Songs like 'Closed On Sunday' and 'The Lone Ranger' with their giddy-up melodies would be right at home on side one of (Daniel Amos' Shotgun Angel) Not everything here is of the rural persuasion: 'He Loves Me' and 'The River Song' have more the polished groove of Sweet Comfort Band, whilst the whimsical 'Round Like A Donut' rocks to a slow doo-wop melody. 'Night Life' funks along with some good jamming lead guitar In fact Daren Hastings' chops are first-rate throughout Strongest track is the closing 'Psalm 117', a splendorous progressive anthem rich with dynamic harmonies and layers of Yes-like synthesizers Magnificent cover design with colorful Art Deco flair. Excellent record!(http://www.holymetal.org/)

THE CROSS - SOLDIER OF THE LIGHT - 2003) DEMO / DISCOGRAPHY / BIOGRAPHY / REVIEW

THIS DEMO CONTAIN(3-TRACKS)
1-SOLDIER OF THE LIGHT

3-GOD'S LOVE STILL STAND

ohh Man These guys rock I Wish they could release more stuffs as this, they sound as A Groove Metal band,,something like(HERO - Bless this nation)you will also hear in this Stuff many Guitarsolos,After listening to this demo CD for the first time, I had to go back and double check the copyright date on the back. I mean, this disc was released in 2003, but is a total throwback to late '80s/early 90's Christian heavy metal when Saint and Messiah Prophet were ruling the scene. OK, perhaps it's not quite that nostalgic, but certainly the attitude and the lyrical direction is that of the metal missionaries of that time period. The music is straight forward heavy metal with a groove. Unlike many of the more modern 'hard music' bands, The Cross aren't afraid to find a groove and ride it. That is not to say the music is boring. There are plenty of riff changes, breaks, etc. in the songs to keep them interesting. At the same time, however, the repetitiveness within the songs make for a more memorable listen. Vocalist Robert Ronning has a mid range, clean style. Personally I would have liked to have heard a bit more variety and aggression in the vocal, and perhaps a good scream or two, but at the same time he does an admirable job. It's hard to completely judge a band's sound by only three songs, but this band looks promising. Here is hoping for more from them in future!!(http://www.holymetal.org/)

Impressive hard rock that would have gone down a treat in the Aussie pub rock scene in the early '90s. Some tracks sound like a heavier Noiseworks, and whilst there are times when the band sound a little like 20/20 Blind, Fear Not (especially the guitar tones) Novella, Cry Mercy, they have their own sound overall. The EP starts with the heaviest rocker Hey Child, and it's not long before the catchy choruses and harmonies kick in on tracks like Faith (Table of Life) and Disguise. The closing track, No Surrender, is their most overtly commercial (and the one that most closely resembles Noiseworks), with a simple yet infectious chorus that gets stuck in your head. Production is nice and clean, and there are some good guitar solos throughout. Well worth tracking down if you enjoy hard rock! it is a pretty solid Christian hard rock indie with above-average production. The songs have some kick to 'em, too, something that seemed to be missing from alot of Christian metal in the late 80s/early 90s. C'mon, boys, aggressive vocals & guitars isn't a sin! (Climbing down off my soapbox now.)Dean's "Extreme-meets-Trixter" comparison is a fair one, so if that sounds cool to you, then I have faith you'll enjoy this CD.If you like this type of music you may come to visite our radiostation.on(http://www.holymetal.org/)

10-LET IT RAIN
In the mid '90s this American singer recorded a couple of killer albums for the Christian label Forefront. But prior to that the songsmith recorded for A&M and this is his debut for the mainstream label from 1990. Fans of his later work will immediately recognise the powerful voice which ranges from a rasping whisper to a powerful roar. Also in place is the well crafted songwriting, strong memorable melodies and rock style that integrated elements of blues and country. From the third millennium standpoint, some of the production is a little dated and as you'd expect from a mainstream release, the more obvious spiritual songwriting of his Forefront albums isn't yet in place. But there is plenty here to get stuck into. There's the huge opener "True Love", the more romantic "The Rose And The Fire" and the edgy rocking "Slip Away". Ultimately Anderson is one of the great under-rated singer/songwriters of his generation and those wanting to hear a great talent should track down this and his other releases.

Having first encountered the name Michael Anderson as the writer of the smash US country hit "Maybe It Was Memphis" and been heartened to note that (a) he's a -"believer and (b) Nelson Word are ' doing a little promotion by offering this, and the Keith Brown debut, at £1.50 off the usual price. It's well worth taking up the offer. Despite his Nashville songwriter roots, country music is a flavour rather than a direction; this is a set of acoustic-based songs but with a rootsy punchy rhythm section. The overall feel reminds one of a cross between John Prine and Mike Peters on a good day, the songs are exceptionally crafted managing to be full of non-cool words like God and Jesus but with no hint of the high cliché count that ruins many overt albums. Some luminaries in the tough backing band (Jerry McPherson, Ed DeGarmo)And An album which will reward anyone who checks out.
MICHAEL ANDERSON-LOVE IS THE HARD PART-1996

7-REVIVAL
8-NO EASY WAY
9-FIGHTING TO SURRENDER
10-DAVID'S HARP
11-THE POST MODERN SOUL ANTENNA
His debut album 'Saints And Sinners' was very good but it was his brilliant rendition of Larry Norman's "Shot Down" (originally for the 'One Way' compilation and track four here) which announced to the CCM world that Michael Anderson was something special. His voice is a gritty, gutsy, world weary growl while the arrangements are meaty, full of shattering power chords, searing swirls of guitar and funky bottom. His lyrics bite deep into their subject too. Here, he is eschewing the shallow sloganeering of some of his Nashville contemporaries. Songs of faith and redemption ("In this world of compromise, Most people slowly die"), soul overcoming fear ("There's a candle in the window/There's a flame that burns for you/Though you're walking in the darkness/There's a light to see you through.") and a compelling piece of improvised atmosphere, "The Post Moderne Soul Antenna" vie for attention. My current faves are "Soul Man Myself" with its affectionate tribute to old Motown grooves, the blistering opener "Love Is The Hard Part" and a song "for poets, artists, musicians, revolutionaries, missionaries and other dreamers", "Revival". A thrilling album by a fine new rock songwriter/musician.

I have always been fans of Michael Anderson's expressive voice and strong songwriting. From his A&M material to the pair of CCM albums released in the '90s, there's no doubting the talent of the man. As a songwriter he's had huge hits in the mainstream with country star recording "Maybe It Was Memphis" and John Fogerty covering "No Love In You". Both of these songs are presented here along with a pile of Anderson originals. Recording at the intersection of rock, country and blues, it's always been Anderson's plaintive wail that emotes the his well penned lyrics. This is closer in style to his A&M material and I have no idea what the spiritual state of the man currently is but he's served a fine collection of songs that tell of love, loss and the struggles of a man. Overall this is a collection of songs that would sound fine in a packed, sweaty, smoky bar and for all I know that could be where Anderson is playing these days. Apart from the hits, there's plenty to enjoy from the blues of "Temptation (In A Little Black Dress)" and "Drive Daddy Drive" to the Americana of "Raymond Chandler Said" and the pure blues boogie of the dodgily titled "Cockrocket" (it's a car I think!) Anyway, after all these years, it is just good to have some new music from the man!

This hard rockin’ collection of post moderne country / blues is brought to you by singer / songwriter Michael Anderson. His original versions of “Maybe It Was Memphis” (Pam Tillis) and “No Love In You” (John Fogerty) are included here. This collection focuses on the style that brought his early success on his first two A&M records ("Sound Alarm" and "Michael Anderson")guitar based live rock and roll band delivery of great songs.loved his christian cds, a few years ago, and I love this one, really ! Bluesy voice with a top band, it's real Anderson as I'd like to find once more in the future

The production is a bit lacking, but what they miss there, they make up for with dynamic musicianship and skill! Keith is one of the better vocalists of the 80s Metal era IMO. Very tight riffs, incredible harmonies ... this band could have gone places. Well, instead they morphed into Titanic and aren't as good anymore.
