THAT CONTAIN THE TWO ALBUMS ON ONE CD
The self-titled debut by The Way was orginally released in 1973 on M!M. Their second and last titled Can It Be? was originally released in 1975 on M!M. One of the earliest pioneering Jesus Music groups to come out of Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, CA, The Way perfected acoustic, country-flavored rock. Their second and final recording includes the addition of phenomenal guitarist John Wickham, establishing a rockier sound that included some electric guitar with a distinctly progressive edge. At least three of these songs have an Allman Brothers/Doobie Brothers vibe! The band's life was brief, but very influential. By the mid 80s both recordings were out of print long before CDs came into their own in the CCM market, so it was never re-issued. Members of the band eentually licensed the rights from M!M to manufacture a Limited Edition re-issue of just 1000 copies. When sales stalled they they cut a deal to sell most of the rest of them to Brutal Planet Distribution, and so Rad Rockers began stocking it in March, 2008, for the very first time. Fans of classic early Jesus Music by Love Song, Phil Keaggy, Larry Norman, and Randy Stonehill will be delighted to discover that mass manufactured, licensed copies are available briefly . . . until they're gone for good. Stylistically they will appeal to fans of early Daniel Amos, America, 2nd Chapter of Acts, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. These two classics were re-mastered for this project. The front sleeve includes a reproduction of the debut albums' original artwork. Drummer Alex Macdougal later went on to play with Richie Furay Band and Daniel Amos. Songs include:

Every Road is the new solo CD release from Numavox artist Michael Gleason. The subject matter is centered in common ground life experience, taking an honest look at how it plays out day to day. The 12 songs are sometimes observational, sometimes intensely personal, and always to the point. Musically, the album has an aggressive acoustic and electric guitar-driven foundation, with vocal hooks and harmonies in generous supply. Michael sings the lead vocals, and plays most of the acoustic guitar tracks, some keyboards, and a few electric passes. The band is made up of Atlanta and Nashville all-stars, including
drummers Scott Meeder and Jon Chalden,
bassists Jackie Street and Pat Malone,
keyboardist John Carrozza,
guitarists Sonny Lallerstedt and Jason Hoard.

Every Road by Michael Gleason is a pleasing and addictive power pop departure. I heard a random song not long ago called ("Maybe I Dont Know") and immediately declared it the best song I'd heard that year. Soon after, I found out it was by Michael Gleason and was incredulous! Being only familiar with Gleason as a member of the 80s CCM group AD, I was shocked to discover that this music, this very voice, belonged to him. I acquired the CD and found it to be consistantly good, but not quite up to the level of the first song I'd heard. I found it to be sneakily addictive however. The production is pristine and top notch musicianship abounds throughout. To compare, I'd liken it to a less eclectic and more positive Kevin Gilbert with strong vocals and very naked processing. Prior to Christian music’s mid-‘80s flirtation with spandex, big hair and highly oscillated shrieks, there were still a few bands mining the tradition of heavy ‘70s classic rock. The New York male foursome Stronghold certainly do so on this early Tunesmith release and they do so with honors. Dark doomy feel throughout with pounding sledgehammer riffs, typically slow and grungy, crawling along like Black Sabbath (‘Barabbas’And, ‘No Superstars For Jesus’,And ‘Nobody Owes You Nothing’)But also some Jethro Tull-ish hard rock (‘Stronghold’) as well as strutting metal ala early Judas Priest (‘Desert Walker’And, ‘The Call’). Opens with a loud instrumental prelude of the hymn ‘A Mighty Fortress’. Vocoder effects used on several tracks. A real bone-crunchin’ mama.

Heres a great piece, rather hard to find, & exceptionally worth the effort to pursue. After Malcom & Alwyn went there seperate ways, Malcom paired up with a few other musicians & tried his hand at a working band relationship. Not a bad effort, & ahead of it's time (for 1982 anyways) for it's rock production. This release should have gotten better response than it did. Sadly, Amy Grant was the radio fair of that day & age, & the album "Age to Age" kind of overshadowed EVERYTHING that year. When this album was originally released in 1973, alongside Parchment's 'Light Up The Fire', it was snapped up by Pye Records - one of the top labels of the day. 'Fools Wisdom' was very much a landmark album of the fledgling CCM industry in this country. Larry Norman, the godfather of contemporary Christian music, had become a British resident and the American Jesus Movement had inspired young Christians on this side of the Atlantic to take up their guitars for the cause. Malcolm & Alwyn, with their trademark autoharp, acoustic guitar and Beatlesque harmonies, sang at all the major Jesus Festivals across the country that summer and were clearly a cut above the rest in those pioneer days. For this, their first album, they were able to enlist the services of Norman's production team and a superb roster of session musicians that included Elton John's drummer. The investment was clearly worthwhile as the recording puts the duo's voices and instruments very much to the fore on each of these delicate self-written songs. Despite dealing with issues common to spiritually seeking young people the world over, the lyrics are quintessentially British - a rare commodity then as now. Yet, curiously, the Americans loved them for it. Malcolm Wilde has, for many years, pastured a Calvary Chapel in Florida whilst Alwyn Wall now leads a similar church in south London. Yet somehow, I doubt that they have ever preached so succinctly to their generation as on this brilliant debut

Malcolm Wild & Alwyn Wall wandered around the churches and coffee bars and concert halls of mid '70s England playing as an acoustic duo. They were like the Phil & John of their day except that for this, their second album recorded in 1974, they decided to plug in and turn up the volume a little bit. Only a little bit mind. Rockers like "Burried Alive" and "I Feel Fine" are very influenced by Larry Norman's brand of mid '70s pop rock whilst the poppier groove of "I Love" is a particular favourite of mine. (Cliff Richard liked it too, he covered it on his 'Small Corners' album.) "Spaceman" has a brilliant quirky '70s vibe to it which sounds like fun now and slower songs like "I Love You More Than Yesterday" and "Stay With Me" are similar to the acoustic material on their debut album 'Fool's Wisdom'. 'Wildwall' comes complete with three bonus live tracks recorded in California including a version of "Fool's Wisdom" and a hilarious "I Feel Fine" which captures their live spirit. Ahhh.memories!


10-ENNottinghamshire singing duo Malcolm Wild and Alwyn Wall, recorded two studio albums, Fools Wisdom and Wildwall before going their separate ways. Both men are now senior pastors at Calvary Chapel churches; Malcolm at Merritt Island, near Cape Canaveral in Florida for 20 years, and Alwyn in Westminster, central London since 2000. Alwyn recalls, "The 1970s was a special time. No doubt about it. When Malcolm and I started there was nothing really happening that young teens of 17 and 18 could relate to. We just fell into it. The folk music style was all we knew at the time, and the only others doing what we were doing at the time seemed to be Graham Kendrick and Trinity Folk, who then became Parchment. It was all brand new. We never dreamed that we would make an album, never mind two. They were musical snapshots of what was happening. About (Joe English(musician)
In the '70s whilst Joe English was recording the 'London Town' album as Paul McCartney's drummer in Wings, he got a phone call to say his wife was injured following a car accident. Doctors did their best but it was the miraculous healing following his wife visiting a prayer meeting that really got his attention. English became a Christian, quit Wings and started work on his own gospel material. These two albums were his first releases on Refuge Records and marked the launch of his solo career. He headlined Greenbelt '81 and toured the UK in the autumn of that year and my job back then was to organise his first British tour. It's simple to say that 'Lights In The World' is a gem with a smooth funky pop production that highlights the strength of English's blue-eyed soul-ish vocal style. Breezy songs like "Shine On", "Midnight Angel Choir" and "Get Ready" all highlight superb musicianship, fab horn arrangements and strong spiritual messages. I think my favourite has always been the upbeat groove of "Praise Him". His second album 'Held Accountable' is more of the same with the signature smooth production sound and layered vocals all in place. There are plenty of fine moments here. "My Strength Is In The Lord" is a great ballad whilst "Learn To Celebrate" is a fabulous short burst of praise. The one thing that is easy to overlook when it comes to Joe and his band is that they were a fine bunch of musicians in their own right (they recorded their own album under the name Forerunner, with ex-Petra man John Lawry handling the vocals). The band's dexterity can be measured on the excellent instrumental workout "Thief In The Night". Of the two albums, 'Lights In The World' is slightly better and for younger music fans, the '80s production sound may make them feel dated but good music is good music. These days Joe English has completely disappeared off the scene.
