BIOGRAPHY:
1993 In the end of the year 1993 Christian Liljegren and I met for the very first time. The location was a no longer existing recordstore in our hometown Jönköping. Jönköping is a small town in the south of sweden, with a lot of musical activity going on. At that time Christian and his band Modest Attraction was just about to release their debut album "The truth in Your face". I was in a band called Sentinel. We had a short conversation, swapped phonenumbers and kept in touch after that first meeting. 1996 The Years went by and we kept struggling with our bands. Modest Attraction released their second CD, "Divine Luxury", at the same time as I decided to leave Sentinel. At that time Christian gave me a phone-call. He asked me if I was interested in being a part of his future solo-project. He had a passion for melodic hardrock, a kind of music that he wasn't able or even allowed to perform in his band Modest Attraction. I said: "Yes, I'm in..." A few months later Christian called me again and said that Modest Attraction was going on tour to Germany and their Guitar-player Stephan Mohlin wasn't able to go with them for different reasons. I was asked to fill the guitar spot for him, which I did. Then Stephan Mohlin quit the band and I was asked to be their permanent Guitarist. At the same time as Christian and I was in Modest Attraction we kept planning the "project" that Christian had a vision of. We had some old songs from previous bands that we tried to shape up as well as possible. We entered the "Topz Recording" studio in september that year. "Topz Recording" was a small, analog studio, deep down under ground. (We eventually "named" it "Hell studio" because of the many stairs down under the street.) So, it was just me and Christian then. I played the instruments, Christian did the vocals. The recordings went on and on for months because of the very short recording sessions. 4-5 hours a day was the standard that was set by our two engineers. There were A Few Guest on this album. One of them was Jakob Persson who later on turned out to be Narnia's permanent Bass-player. Janne Stark also did A Guest-Solo on guitar and Mart Hallek played Violin. 1997 In January we were finally able to see the light and the end of this quiet tedious recording. As we were going to mix the album I caught a flue, nastier than ever before. I was only there for two songs so Christian had to be responible for this by himself. After a week of hard work by Christian and our engineers, the "Awakening" album was mixed. After the mastering at Starec Studio we handed over a CDR to our agent at that time, Magnus Söderkvist. He went to the MIDEM festival in France and introduced Our Record To 10 Japanese labels. 9 of them were eager to sign a deal with Narnia. A bidding between the companies started and we eventually decided to stick with Pony Canyon. Other artist on Pony Canyon are: Marillion, Jens & Anders Johansson, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Paul Jones, (Ex Led Zeppelin) Joe Lynn Turner (Ex Rainbow) and many more. In May Christian and I went on our last, short tour with Modest Attraction. We headed for Germany and Switzerland and during that trip We Met Matthias Mittelstädt. Matthias had a managment company Called MCM Music together with his brother Rainer. Matthias loved our album and offered himself to become our manager. We felt that the chemistry was right and ended up on MCM. Other bands on MCM are Saviour Machine, Rob Rock etc. Now We Wanted to play live of course. We gathered some talented friends and Narnia Mark I Was Born. The line up of Narnia mark I: Jakob Persson - Bass Martin Claésson - Keyboards Fredrik Junhammar - Drums Christian Liljegren - Vocals Carl Johan Grimmark - Guitars This lineup did it's first and last concert in Huskvarna, Sweden at the "Ung Kraft" festival on March 24 -97. Right after that Fredrik quit the band because of lack of time. On July 18 "Awakening" was released in Japan. The release was a small success for us and we gained a lot of fans over there. We needed a new drummer and we found Andreas Johansson who auditioned and joined us in August. Since then Mark II is still together. European record labels got more and more interested in Narnia. We signed with the German metal-label Nuclear Blast. Together with swedish Hammerfall we were one of the first melodic bands on Nuclear Blast. 1998 Nuclear Blast released the "Awakening" in February. We did shows in Sweden and Germany and in April we got the opportunity to open up for Stratovarius in Turku and Helsinki, Finland. We also appeared on Finnish TV. More and more people heard of Narnia all over Europe. A big dream came true when we were asked to do a concert at the legendary "Monsters of Rock" festival in Milano, Italy. Of course we were overwhelmed. We were going to play with bands like Deep Purple, Van Halen, Dream Theater and many more. Two weeks before the festival we got the sad news that the festival was moved to a smaller arena, and a lot of bands were refused to play. That dream crashed and burned as dreams do sometimes but that same day we were asked to go on tour to Germany/Switzerland with Ronnie James Dio. That helped us to lick our wounds. During the summer of 98 we spent a few hot months in the studio, recording our second album "Long Live the King". The location this time was "Berghem Studio" outside Jönköping, sweden. A very nice studio on the countryside. The "Awakening" album had a stiff project atmosphere because of the limitation of just two persons performing. This time we worked hard to make a band-record. The whole band was in the studio. As You might hear Christian tried a slightly different vocal style. He brought the vocal lines down a bit, to a lower register. As the producer of this album I tried to make it big, inspired by the sound of Black Sabbath's "Tyr". The guests on this album was once again Mart Hallek but also Sonny Larsson who did some background vocals. On the 22nd of september, the very day after the album was finished, we were on a plane to Germany where were going to spend the following three weeks in busses, hotels, clubs and halls. The tour was called "To Hull and back" and it was a three band package. The running order each night was: Black Symphony (fr USA with Jeff Martin - Badlands, Racer X) Narnia Dio We did 15 shows in Germany/Switzerland and it was GREAT. There were between 500-2000 people showing up each night. Many of the clubs and halls were sold out and packed. As soon as we got home Christian and I was invited to Japan to promote the upcoming "LLTK" album. It was four hectic days of interviews with TV, Radio and magazines. (Luckily we also had one day off to see Van Halen at the famous Budokan arena.) During our Tokyo stay I met Caparison guitars that I'm now endorsed by. When we got home from Japan we did a few more shows on our own continent that year. We headed back to Germany where we played the "Christmas Rock Night", Ennepetal with Saviour Machine and Ken Tamplin etc. 1999 1999 started out good with the release of the new Narnia album "Long Live The King". We had a releaseparty in our hometown Jönköping that were totally sold out and there were hundreds of people outside. Christian worked hard, doing interviews with radio, magazines and e-zines all over the world. We had good reviews everywhere, better than the "Awakening" but saleswise "LLTK" never really reached to the same level as "Awakening". We did concerts in Sweden, Finland and Germany. Overall, this year wasn't as hectic as the previous year. There was time for us to do some different things. Sometimes I was even afraid that Narnia was dying. Christian put his own band Wisdom Call together. "LLTK" was kind of a "slow" record and Christian's fascinatio n for fast music, and the need to rehearse more often to keep his voice trained, made him put this band together. Together with a friend of mine, the singer Pär Hagström, I recorded a cover-version of Yngwie Malmsteen's "Dark ages". It was released as a tribute to Yngwie Malmsteen on the record "A guitar odyssey". I started to write new music for Narnia as well. 2000 In the beginning of this year we had enough songs to start recording a new album. In March we started. Once again we were in "Berghem Studio". We recorded the drums and rhythm guitars there and then we moved in to my own "Dream Factory" studio to record the rest. I had just started to build this studio and we ran into some serious computer problems for a while. There were some drives that were striking. It's almost embaressing to admit now but for different reasons it was really hard to find the actual problem. I bought some new drives and we were ready to move on. We were looking back at the "LLTK" album and what we saw was something that were proud of but this time we wanted to do something different. We wanted to make our new CD more alive, basic and raw than any of the previous ones. Once again I was producing it myself. I tried to build up an aggressive type of sound, influenced by records from the '70s. More guitars, less keyboards, distorted bass and "basement drums". Christian's lyrics on this album are more personal than ever and Andreas, Jakob and Martin did their best and most relaxed performances to date. The only guest on this album was Pär Hagström who did backgound vocals and on additional lead-part. We recorded a cover of Uriah Heep's "Sunrise". This was made for a Uriah Heep tribute record. The release was set to the year 2001. We did a lot of nice touring this year. We played in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Holland, England and Germany. In Holland Andreas was temporarily replaced by former Modest Attraction drummer Mick Norström. We were totally blown away by the crowds in our "first time countries" Holland and England. We just stood there with stupid looks on our faces, receiving a wonderful welcoming from the audiences in Rotterdam, Holland and Sheltenham, UK. The show in Sheltenham was at the old, famous Greenbelt festival. We celebrated christmas-time with the Japenese release of our new CD "Desert Land" on December 20 and New Years eve with a big concert in Seinäjoki, Finland. 2001 We started this year with promotion activities for the "Desert Land" release in Europe, North & South America and Australia. Christian went to Germany and the headquarter of Nuclear Blast to meet the press and to do phone-interviews all over the world. The reviews of "Desert Land" was better than any of the previous records. The album was released on February 14 and once again we had a releaseparty in Jönköping. We did two concerts this night, to get everybody in. In the fall of 2001 Jakob Persson was replaced by the talented bassplayer Andreas Olsson who had played together with Christian in his project Wisdom call. He was and still is a member of the band Stormwind. Right after that we started composing music for a new album. For this album we decided to realize a long-time idea of making a concept album. In this year I also became a part of the American band/project Saviour Machine. The record "Legend III:I" was recorded this year 2002 This year we made a small bunch of concerts, composed music and worked on the concept for "The Great Fall". It was recorded in spread-out sessions from the spring of 2002 to early 2003. We had two special-guest appearances on the album by Mr Eric Clayton (Saviour Machine) and Mr Anders Johansson (HammerFall) Christian also worked a lot with his label Rivel Records and with other musical projects. I played on the "Live in Deutchland 2002" DVD/CD with Saviour Machine that came out in the fall of this year. 2003 Right after "The Great Fall" was mixed I recieved a phone-call from our keyboard-player Martin. He wanted to leave the band. After 6 years with the band he felt that it was time to move on for different reasons. We licked our wounds and asked our friend Linus Kеse to join immediately, which he did! A month later we were asked to do a concert in Owen, Germany and we thought "Hey, let's record it and put a LIVE-DVD out". So, we made all arrangements, got a new deal for it with German label Massacre real quick and pulled it off to our own surprise. In the summer we joined with Dio for one concert in Vдsterеs, Sweden. The autumn was spent mixing, editing, cutting and mastering the DVD which turned out GREAT! A big THANK YOU to everyone who attended this memorable and luckily well-documented concert. Christian was working hard this year together with Lars Chriss from Lions Share on a project called "Audiovision". Christian and Linus was also working together on a project called "Windy City". The debut CD of the band "System Breakdown", that I'm in together with Andreas J, was released this year. Andreas J was on tour with one of Sweden's most famous domestic artists "Carola" on her "Twentieth anniversary" tour. 2004 2004 may have been the most interesting year in Narnia's history. We had our first DVD out, named "At short notice", on Massacre records. Itґs a great documentation over one of the best shows we ever did. We are very proud of it. During our "At short notice" tour we had the opportunity to visit some new places were we had never played before. We were very happy to be a part of Sweden Rock Festival this year. We had great fun playing there and we also got the chance to see some awesome bands perform like Europe, UFO and Judas Priest. The Faroe Islands wasnґt just a great gig - it was fantastic to visit their beautiful country and our reception was far better than we all expected. The people that made the arrangement did a great job and we made some great friends there. Thank you all for making that happen. We hope that weґll be back at the Faroe Islands in the future. Revolution Metal Fest in Mexico city became the highlight of the year. Since Stryper canceled, which is a story on its own, we played together with Saviour Machine, Mortification and Excosia. We gave the 4000 people that showed up a concert to remember. Even here we were suprised by the overwhelming response we got. Huge thanks to everybody involved in making Revolution Metal Fest happen. You have a special place in our hearts forever! We canґt wait to go back to Central America! All Narnia members have been working with different projects during the year: Read more about Christianґs projects at www.rivelrecords.com Carl Johan has been recording and performing with Saviour Machine. Andreas Johansson has been touring with swedish artist E-type. Andreas Olsson's been recording with Divinefire and performing with Harmony. Linus is working with Brighteye Brison. Andreas Olsson, Andreas Johansson and Carl Johan played a gig with Rob Rock in Oslo. Carl Johan has also recorded some lead-guitars for the new Rob Rock album "Holy Hell". During autumn Carl Johan and Christian have been working on new songs for a NEW NARNIA-ALBUM! At the moment we have 11 songs and the plan is to start recording in februari. The working title for the album is "Enter the gate". We promise that it will be nothing but great! .

REVIEWS FOR THE ALBUMS:
AWEKENING
Awakening .Narnia is purely christian in every respect. When Lewis wrote narnia, he was thinking: what if Jesus went into another fallen world?' This is what makes Narnia christian. Aslan is Jesus, the god-man; the witch is Satan, the great rebel. This is an amazing album from start to finish. OK so the lyrics are a bit cheesy but the music makes up for that, CarlJohan Grimmark is an amazing musician, he plays Guitar, Keyboards and Bass on this album and also programs the drums which I'm not shure are real or not but they still sound great all the same. I just wonder if he is influenced by Yngwie at all??? .... There is possibly a small chance he might be . All the same he is a great guitarist and does a good job even thought he does sound a bit too much like his idol. The vocals are one of the best in the world And they still do a good job. I can't get enough of 'No More Shadows from the Past', what a song that is!!!! 'The Awakening' is also a favorite of mine on this album. All of the other songs sound good too there isn't really a weak song on here. This is a great album overall and I ant wait to check out more of their stuff. Rock on NARNIA!! is devoted to CS Lewis' literary Narnia than to this band.Lewis was not an Anglican apologist who wrote many explicitly Christian books. Darwin was a Creationist. Jesus was a woman. Bach played hard rock. Arsenic is a tonic. And anniepotter's brilliant review is worth the cyberspace it clutters.Anyone get the sarcasm? In his collection of essays "God in the Dock" Lewis explicitly encourages the writing of books of every sort with their Christianity "latent". However, the Biblical themes of substitutionary redemption, immediate creation, gender distinction, monarchical traditionalism, feudal loyalty ad infinitum are BLATANT in the Narnia Chronicles, which begin with creation and a fall and end with apocalypse and heaven. Only a modern totalitarian humanist could claim that these are generic stories. If Aslan is not Christ, then allegory simply must not exist. Where do these infidels get the idea that all great literature, even Christian allegory, belongs to them? One wonders what anniepotter thinks about "The Pilgrim's Progress" and "Paradise lost". No, actually one doesn't care to know.THE GREAT FALL ALBUM REVIEWS:.I bought this cd because I suspected it was power metal and because of they're name. It took about two times of listening to the whole cd before it started to grow on me. The sound on the cd is quite good. The Guitars, Bass, Drums and Vocals are all good. This cd isn't really based on the Narnia books so if you buy this cd expecting it to be about Narina you'll be disappointed. They're other cds might be about Narina but I don't know I can't find any of they're cds. The best song on this cd is "The Great Fall of Man" it is quite a good song and it also talks about what a fallen world we live in.Mix together the neoclassical Guitar stylings of Yngwie Malmsteen, the classic 80's metal of Dio, the melodic hard rock of Joe Lynn Turner era Rainbow and the progressive metal of Dream Theater and one would get 'The Great Fall' by Narnia. Some might call this CD neoclassical metal, others power metal, I call it great music. Everything from the production to the songwriting to the Vocals to the Keyboards and the Blazing Guitar Solos is excellent. The band has an incredible guitar player, however he does not let his amazing technical abilities over shadow the songs. From start to finish 'The Great Fall' is a great release. So far one of my favorite CD's to come out in 2003 along with Tourniquet's 'Where Moth And Rust Destroy'. Highly recommended.

DECADE OF CONFESSION ALBUM REVIEW:
This is an essential collection of Europe's leading Christian epic/melodic metal outfit topped with a lot of special tracks - the limited double Digipak with 2 CD's. "Decade of Confession" offers 2 CD's packed with new songs, rare Japanese and US bonus tracks and the best album tracks from 10 years of NARNIA history.

DESERT RAIN ALBUM REVIEW:
The greatest strength of Narnia rests in the amazing talents of their guitarist, Carl Grimmark. At times I felt as though I was listening to Yngvie Malmsteen. Grimmark's playing style is fast and very similar to Yngvie's. The vocals on this album are also decent and the production quality is above average.
This album is at its best when they rock hard and fast. This is Narnia's best album and has the highest production quality. If you liked either of their first two albums, then I guarantee you will like this one. The only weak spot on this album is that a few of the songs Have A Slower Tempo and didn't impress me much (other than the Fantastic Guitar Solos). If you like Impellitteri, Yngvie Malmsteen, or just plain guitar shreddin', then you should check out "Desert Land" by Narnia. If you like 80's style metal you will love this album. This CD is so awesome both in sound and production you will not want to take it out of your CD player. It starts out real heavy and just keeps getting heavier all the way through. If you like Metallic Heavy Riffin' Rock And Roll you will have your mind blown by this brand new release from this GREAT Swedish band. They say metal is coming back and Narnia is for sure one of the best "Leaders of the Pack" Check em out you will not be disapointed that is forsure.(http://www.holymetal.org/)

Tim McAllister: Producer, Engineer, Songwriter,

Paul Stewart: Lap Steel, Vocals.
Tim McAllister first appeared in the eighties as the songwriter, singer and guitarist of Flock 14 and World Theatre.Flock 14’s frantic stage shows gained them a large following in their hometown, leading to three record offers. They signed with Blue Collar (Undercover, Adam Again, 441) but the record company folded before recording the album. I took a chance on this album pulling it out of a bargain bin. I'm glad I did. I was very pleasantly surprised with an album full of mostly low-key, mature pop song stylings from a mostly one-man band by the name of Tim McAllister. McAllister's voice has a nice range of affective emotions from melancholy to growing hope. Several of the songs have a story outline to them and, while the lyrics are fairly routine, the music and arrangements are evocative and serve the songs nicely. "Gently Down (Last Thursday)" is a heart-breaking eulogy for his sister and her passing and shows what fine, little snippets of life can be captured in song. I'Ve Given this album 5 stars because some of the Synthesized music dates the album. However, if you're ever in the mood to chance a Cure-ish, emotionally rich album you could do a lot worse. My Favos Tracks Are " Dream it's Safe" And " Takes So Long " Those Tracks Are A Little Melancoly But They My Favo Cuz They Contain Full Power of Reality of his own life of Tim And Life,I Really Recomend IT if You Find it there Don't Think Twice,Note That You May Listen To Some Previews (ON LIGHTRADIO SYSTEM)

TIM REVIEW:
Tim McAllister here - well… The details are a bit off. World Theatre was my band, though Gary did play on it, and I was the one who played with Servant. I really enjoyed playing with Gary. I recorded an earlier incarnation of Garys Band (which included Scott On Drums) called envoy.Tim, modified the correct write-up for Human Condition. Thank you for pointing out the corrections. Which Servant album did you play in. We’re talking of Sandie and Owen Brock’s Servant are we? )Listened to the new material you had and I’m liking it, really good stuff. We’re glad your back making alternative music again. We thought that you were pretty much pre-occupied in making Blues music with Papa Salty.Human Condition was essentially a one-man-band project by Gary Egger. Human Condition was perhaps the best of all the Christian groups that tried to sound like The Cure; indeed. they were so good at it that the self-titled debut album was criticized as the work of an imitative tribute band. But True Tunes would grant that on the sophomore Impressions of Grace Egger allows "influence to be influence and develops his own mode of Euro-alternative pop." Lyrically, the latter album is true to it's name, offering glimpses of hope and beauty amidst a soundscape of "dark shades and haunting atmospheres.".Flock 14 is a techno-pop band from the Portland, Oregon aea. Some of their music is danceable New Music and some is moody synthesizer oriented. The four members of the band are : Tim Mc Allister on vocals, guitar, keyboards ; Dennis Childers- keyboards ; Jerry Michaels - keyboards; and Bryan Dehart on drums. The band has opened for Daniel Amos, Rez and Undercover. They play the same dance clubs where Quarterflash and Nu Shooz play.Their sound has been categorized as "an avant-garde twist combined with elements of The Fixx or Devo."Great band! Only released one album, “Brave New World?” (1987), on Caesar Kalinowski’s Graceland (later Wonderland) Record label, before changing their name to World Theatre and releasing one self-titled album on Frontline Records in 1989. I believe that they morphed into Human Condition after that. Both of these albums were released on CD, but the “Brave New World?” CD is very rare.http://robertigno.webs.com/

BIOGRAPHY:

Impellitteri is a Christian heavy metal band from USA formed and led by guitarist Chris Impellitteri in 1987. Since then, the band has released numerous albums to critical praise, mainly due to Chris Impellitteri's speed/shred style of playing. The band's style is often compared to Racer X, while Chris' is compared to Yngwie Malmsteen. The band is currently on hiatus as Chris recently joined a Los Angeles band.American Impellitteri is basically a musical outlet for skilled guitarist Chris Impellitteri with the assistance of a fairly fluctuating line-up, and the band has had its share of ups and down but has also earned itself a well-deserved name on the neo-classical metal scene. In 1987, the three musicians recorded the Mike Davis-produced mcd Impellitteri, with Chris Impellitteri taking care of the bass as well. The music consisted of formularized neo-classical heavy metal and suffered from a mediocre production. This effort gained only very little success but the band nevertheless carried on with bassist Ted Days in order to perform at concerts. However within short notice, this line-up fell apart. In 1988, Chris Impellitteri founded a second version of Impellitteri with the English singer Graham Bonnet, bassist Chuck Wright, keyboarder Phil Wolfe, and drummer Pat Torpey. Later that year, the band achieved a major breakthrough in Japan with the Cliff Cultreri-produced Stand in Line, which featured a guest appearance from bassist Randy Rand. This release focused on the English hard-rock of the 1970s. Wright and Torpey immediately left Impellitteri, for what reason the band continued with bassist Dave Spitz and drummer Stet Howland. In 1990, Bonnet and Wolfe defected, and Impellitteri thus employed singer Mark Weitz and the French keyboarder Claude Schnell. The band cut some tracks collectively known as Holy Grail, but these efforts were shelved, and Impellitteri subsequently disbanded. In 1992, Rob Rock, Chris Impellitteri and Chuck Wright ressurected Impellitteri with drummer Ken Mary, whereupon the musicians recorded Grin and Bear It, which featured a guest appearance from the backing vocalists Michael Shotton and Mike Smith. This record flopped musically since the band experimented with too many loose ends and ideas from contemporary heavy-rock. Wright and Mary immediately left Impellitteri, which continued with bassist James Amelio Pulli and drummer Mark Bistany. In 1994, the band recorded the Mike Tacci-produced mcd Victim of the System, which featured a guest appearance from keyboarder Claude Schnell, drummer Ken Mary, and the backing vocalist Ken Tamplin. The music had now found its own identity and sounded like a better version of the debut mcd, and this effort sold quite well in the Southeast Asia and Japan. In 1995, Bistany had to give way to the returning Ken Mary, after which Impellitteri recorded Answer to the Master, which featured a guest appearance from bassist Chuck Wright, keyboarder Mike Smith, and the backing vocalist James Christian. The album became an immediate success in Japan. Impellitteri was then expanded with keyboarder Edward Harris Roth (ex Nydia Caro/Planet 10/Cryer/Royal Court of China/Rave Up/Maltese/Brian Tarquinn) and drummer Glen Sobel. Bistany later joined Cellophane. In 1996, Mary returned as the studio drummer on Screaming Symphony, while Glen Sobel functioned as a live drummer. In 1997, Impellitteri recorded Eye of the Hurricane with help from Ken Mary instead of Sobel even though Sobel was once again a part of the following tour. The record was the strongest release to date and finally gave the band attention on the European continent. In 1999, Glen Sobel became a permanent member of Impellitteri, while Mary formed Shock Rock Remedy. In 2000, Impellitteri recorded Crunch, which experimented with progressive, groovy guitar sounds, samples, and drum loops, while the tempo in general was increased in velocity. Rock however left Impellitteri long time before the release of the record, while Graham Bonnet returned as a singer, and for the same reason the following tour was cancelled. Moreover, the album failed to sell. In 2001/2002, the band recorded System X that showed a characteristic return to the previous style, though with an evident absence of neo-classical elements. The album was met with positive response from the press and sold much better than its predecessor. However, Bonnet defected as soon as the album was finished. In 2003, the band employed vocalist Curtis Skelton (Ex Fear No Evil)..

REVIES FOR THE ALBUMS:
Impellitteri back with one of the best voices in metal Rob Rock. Eye of the Hurricane is an excellent album in the mold of riffy Dokken. This album is more diverse than the previous album Screaming Symphony and better for it. 11 songs on the regular album with some grooving tracks, an acoustic ballad and some balls out speedy metal tunes. Kingdom Fighter, Shed Your Blood and Bleed in Silence are classic songs. If you like gritty, thick riffs, absolutely shredding solos and awesome passionate vocals then you'd do good to get this album.

REVIEW FOR ALBUMS IMPELLITTERI: IMPELLITTERI:PEDAL TO THE METAL
With the recent release of 'Crunch' at the turn of this year, Chris and friends have proved that there is still a demand for heavy metal of the more traditional kind. It all began with the band's self-titled EP, originally released in '86, which has now seen the light of day for the first time in the UK, thanks to the very kind folks at Century. Though dated, and somewhat rough around the edges, this four-tracker provides an intriguing and enjoyable insight into a band that has continued to gain in popularity. Comprised of Rob Rock on vocals, Toni Silba on drums and Chris providing the riffs, 'Impellitteri' showcases some great musical moments. From the frenzied opening guitar tones of "Lost In The Rain", through to the solid, determined beats found in "I'll Be Searching", it is evident that Chris is an axeman of the highest calibre and his long standing collaboration with singer/songwriter Rob Rock has continued to provide great chemistry. 'Impellitteri' not only offers a trip down memory lane, but also a valuable milestone in the career of a talented and respected guitar player. I've got a friend who considers Impellitteri the finest metal band on the planet and though I wouldn't go that far I can see why Chris Impellitteri's slash-and-burn guitar stylings have brought them a cult following in the rock and metal worlds. As with previous Impellitteri albums, Chris' faith comes through loud and clear on songs like "Judgement Day" and "Dance With The Devil" while his song "Punk" has a go at everything from Eminem, bubble gum pop and "another rap metal whore" (wonder who he had in mind there). Throughout his surging guitar propelled by concrete solid bass and drums and those histrionic vocals keep the adrenaline pumping. Modern rock fans may find this metal feast a bit too dated for their tastes but all power to the band for surviving after mass acceptance of their particular take on hard music has moved on.And What About The Last Issui Album(WEAKED MADEN)First off, I am a huge Rob Rock fan, and the combination of Chris Impellitteri and Rob Rock has always been a killer combination for me.I only have the Impellitteri albums that has Rob Rock on vocals, so I will compare this album to Crunch.I think with all the anticipation and waiting for this album, I expected a little bit more.Although after giving this cd a 3rd and 4th listen, I am starting to enjoy it more and more. This is not a bad cd, I think Crunch is a little bit better. There is nothing new here, fast guitar riffing, soaring vocals. If you are a die hard Impellitteri fan, and you enjoy Rob Rock on vocals, then I suggest getting this cd.

REVIEW FOR THE ASTRAYED NEW DIRECTION:
My Only Complain For This christian band is that they used to be Formerly christian open lyricals. Now it all seems that the last albums have taken a new astrayed direction pleasing more the no-christian and forgotten the christianism, and God As His first sourse in the music its sad cuz they have everything, talents, profecionalism but they re going astrayed from God, In My Opinion, the more they do release A New Material The more it seems they ve gone away from God Consects,as the biblia say many started strong in God Standars and Christian Values But the richeness of this world desbanned the good Habbits,,its a shame for some kind of bands as this! hope Oneday Impellitteri they will arepent of this Big Mistake and wrong way And wrong direction they are taking away from God Rules, even Rob Rock Is Becoming more weird this guy has really A Great Talent with unique Voice But His Jumping Here and there as a man who doesn't know where he wants to stand, jumping christian music and jumping secular bands,in my opinion this is has no fruit when you have one foot in one foot out,you can't serve two lords and two Gods,OR You serve one and hates the other one,,but this is all MR.ROB ROCK,Even though i do not think MR."ROB ROCK" this guy have not the time to take the biblia and read carefully the holy scriptures to apply it as well as it has to be Mixed With music, sometime their lyrics make nosence, its Just as a little boy or else As A New Converted who is a new born in chrit Who Lack of Knowledge And Consects,At The Time he has had As A Christian He Should Have Grown The stronger christian lyrics, cuz as the time pass away and pass by we must stand stronger in God And STRONG!! In THE Knowledge of God,But His lyrics Sometime Make me Boss,Is Just AS He Grows Strong On His Career of music But he still A Child that Miss The Stronger Meat,I mean the stronger Christian Scriptures In His Life,,Anyway This IS Just My Point OF View(

"A style that rivals Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc," says the publicity blurb. Well... there's more metal than grunge here. Never mind, for the band's Tim Bushong and Greg Purlee write good songs and with studio maestros John and Dino Elefante gating the guitars until they sound like they'd slice through concrete, 'Soak Your Brain' is an exciting rock album. Outstanding is the title track ("Dig a little bit deeper/Is it all a game?/Take a swim in the Truth/Now soak your brain.") It may not be Hemmingway but it kicks. You wanted to know what happened to these guys. Well Tim Bushong went on to form The Channel Surfers and toured again. He is now in the little town of Syracuse, Indiana with a studio at his home is keeping busy recording all kinds of national acts for the big boys in Nashville. Lovewar did record 20 more tracks that I Do Not have that was never released you should try and get them they are good but not as good as Soak. Even Though they are often Compare With King's X Groove and Extreme commercialism. Together with the big production of John & Dino Elephante, it makes for a great listen. I wonder what happened to this band after this album as I never heard anything about them again. http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/.

REVIEWS FOR THE ALBUMS:FREEDOM
In 1989, White Heart released Freedom, the last of their three albums on their contract with Sparrow Records. Freedom is my overall favorite White Heart album, Featuring Vocalist Rick Florian, Guitarists Billy Smiley and Gordon Kennedy, keyboardist Mark Gersmehl, Bassist Tommy Simms and Drummer Chris McHugh--probably the best lineup in the band's history. This album has everything from kickin' rock tracks to pop to beautiful ballads. My overall favorite songs here include "Let the Kingdom Come" , "Over Me, Invitation", "Set the Bridge on Fire" and "I'll Meet You There". Other enjoyable songs include Bye Bye Babylon", "Power Tools," "Sing Your Freedom" and "The River Will Flow". This is not only my overall favorite White Heart album, not only one of my favorite Christian rock albums, but one of my favorite rock albums PERIOD.Their previous work with Sparrowe Records had been very hit n' miss with "Don't Wait for the Movie" often coming off as cliched with the odd hint of some real songwriting power. But it never occured to me that this same band (with a few changes to the lineup) would produce an album like "Freedom". I would consider this album and Michael W. Smith's "I 2 (Eye)" album the two pinnicles of Christian Rock in the 80's or even the present day era.As it relates to music, I define the word "classic" as that which doesn't get relegated to that time in which it was created. I consider it to be a classic if it sounds current years after its initial release (usually 10 years or more). White Heart's "Freedom" cd was released in 1989 and yet nothing about it sounds dated. Brown Bannister's production is as sparkling today as it was when it was originally released approximately 17 years ago as of this review. There are moments of great density ("Bye Bye Babylon") as well as moments of spacious separation (the first 2 minutes of "Let The Kingdom Come"). The musicianship is of the same quality as Yes (90125 era), Kansas and Toto. Take the best and most accessible aspects of those bands, combine them together and you'll get an idea of how "Freedom" sounds. The song writing is incredible. All out rock workouts ("Power Tools", "Bye Bye Babylon") are combined with more grooved based songs ("Invitation"), Ballads that aren't over wrought ("The River Will Flow") and a few unexpected styles ("Sing Your Freedom"'s Motown like chorus). The lyrics and singing are heart felt and never clique. Lead singer Ric Florian (if you're familiar with the band, you know he spelled his name differently on every album) has a voice quite unlike any I've heard and it fits perfectly with what the band does on this cd. Drummer Chris McHugh's style is aggressive and rock solid. http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/ .This is a great album - a classic! This album has everything that makes a classic album - songs that work seperately and together. The Brown Bannister produced albums best tracks "Kingdom Come", "Power Tools" and "Invitation" are better than almost any secular album, let alone a CCM one. The only album that is better is Joshua Tree by U2.
REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM REDEMTION:
Many of us could feel it coming. It was just too quiet in the Whiteheart camp for too long. When "Redemption" finally came out and it was not supported with a concert tour, our fears were realized. Whiteheart disbanded in the months following the release of this CD. However, the introspective lyrics combined with the artistry of instrumentation make Whiteheart's "Redemption" one of the strongest Whiteheart albums ever. The years leading to the release of this project were not kind to Whiteheart. At the time of the recording of "Redemption", only co-founders Billy Smiley and Mark Gersmehl along with long-time lead vocalist Rick Florian remained. The remainder of the fellows in the studio were new to the band (not such a bad thing), and they were brought in soley for the making of the record. It worked because the sound coming off the finished product demonstrates an excellance in detail and quality. As you read the interviews following the release of "Redemption", you understand better where the band (Now Trio) was coming from at the time of recording. Each man had been battling with some type of struggle that rocked him and his faith pretty hard. What came from these personal battles are honest, heartfelt, and certainly painful lyrics that parallel our own lives as well. The songs flow together in a theme even though each track is individually sequenced. The listener travels from despair to revelation to repentance to redemption (hence the title) by the time he/she finishes the final track. Despite the dark and melancholy feel to this CD, it actually provides a great deal of hope. Listen attentively to each lyric. In fact, take out the CD insert, sit down comfortably, and read along while you play through "Redemption" nonstop. While not as edgy as "Inside", you can still feel the rock. The majority of the songs are slower (slow to mid-tempo), but the production quality is outstanding. This album is a great album. Just like each of the previous albums by WhiteHeart, it is different than the one before it. Other singers and bands release albums that sound exactly the same. Whiteheart has always change their sound just enough on the next album to keep you listening. Petra, for instance, sounds the same on each CD. The thing I've enjoyed the most about Whiteheart, is that their sound changes. As an avid listener, everytime I bought the new cd that just came out, it took a couple of weeks for it to wear on me. I'd buy it and not really know what to think. Then after a little time, I'd realize, it just took a while to get used to the new sound that they produced. This album fits right in with all of the others. Right at the top of my list. From the 1st song til the last, this is a great cd. Jesus is one of my favorite songs. I keep hitting repeat when this one plays. The opening track "Looking Glass" has an awesome end solo at the end! This shows that even after so long this band can still produce absolute solid rock! I love the message of this song too. But by far my favourite songs on hear are Mark's two brilliantly penned solo written songs, "Fall On Me" and "Love Is Everything"!! These songs are amazing with some awesome acoustic guitar. And the other song I love is the last rocker of Whiteheart ever! "Jesus" sees the band on the crescendo finish. I am really sad that they are not going anymore, as I love this album a lot. No one can argue that the lyrics to "The Vine", "Fall On Me", "Steel and Stone", and "Love is Everything" are "formulaic CCM" lyrics .

HIGHTLANDS ALBUM REVIEW:
"Highlands," all dressed up in Celtic garb, looks like one of those albums that has great cover artwork but little to offer in the music department. With this album though, Christian arena rockers White Heart prove that you can have a great album with cool artwork on the cover. The album opens with the wonderful "You Can See The World" and then steps into the solid rocker, "Nothing But The Best." From there we are given a healthy dose of wonderful ballads (especially "Once And For All") and heavy hitters like "Let My People Go." My personal favorites are arena-ready "The Flame Passes On" and the excellent "Highlands Of Love." If you've been a fan of Christian rock for awhile, you know that White Heart has been on "hiatus" for roughly a decade. Even though they haven't officially broken up, it doesn't seem likely that they'll ever get back together. Although "Highlands" wasn't their last album (I believe that was "Redemption"), it's definitely one of their best ones. If you enjoy arena rock or Christian rockers like Petra, give White Heart a look. If you can, get a hold of their two "Best Of" releases, aptly titled "Nothing But The Best." One of the discs includes their radio and A/C hits, the other contains their rockers.I have nearly all of Whiteheart's albums, and this is a favorite, with its beautiful melodies and Celtic influence." TALES OF WONDER".

TALES OF WONDER REVIEW:
There can't be too many bigger White Heart fans out there than I am. I will qualify that to mean that I'm a lover of all of their material in the Rick Florian era. Being very familiar with all of that era's material, I would rate 'Tales' as the best of White Heart's albums. Of my eleven favorite White Heart songs, four come from 'Tales'. Although I believe that their message isn't as strong as it was in 'Powerhouse', the quality of the music, each individual song as well as the whole album, is superior here. If you like power drums, then this is your CD!!! The four brightest stars on this album are: 1) Silhouette. This song has such a unique sound to it, really different from White Hearts usual rock songs and ballads. This is my 3rd favorite of all their songs. Spine tingling....I can't get enough of this song! 2) Who Owns You. White Heart has never rocked better than on this song. Very strong lyrics, guitars, drums. Rock lovers will find this as an instant favorite! 3) Unchain. One of White Heart's most beautiful songs. So wonderfully sung and very radio friendly. This song would appeal to any music lover. 4) His Heart Was Always In It. One of my very first favorites! Very powerful rock and roll with a fantastic message. You'll love the drumming here too! This song has to be included among the very top Christian rock songs ever. This album has no weak tracks. Other highlights not mentioned above: Vendetta, Raging of the Moon, Say the Word and Light a Candle. All of those would be the top song or two on any other album. If you buy any White Heart CD, or want to start with one, this is what you should get! When this cd came out over a decade ago, White Heart was just another struggling CCM band. They had their hits from previous cds ("Seventy Times Seven", "Fly Eagle Fly", "Bye Bye Babylon" and too many others to mention), but they had yet to have a "perfect" cd. Tales of Wonder fixed that forever. This was ground-breaking and record-setting. For the first time ever, every song on a cd was released as a single--and all charted in the top 10! This saw the first incarnation of the band with Jon Knox as the drummer (formerly of Adam Again) and these guys took it to a whole new level! "Raging of the Moon" started it off with a rocking bang and it never let up. "Gabriella" will haunt you with it's deep lyrics (and it must have worked, because Mark Gershmel met his "Gabriella" while touring for this cd with Rachel Rachel in their keyboardist Brynn Beltraine). One thing that always grabbed me about White Heart was the fact that they traded lead singing duties between Rick Florian and Mark. Both men had strong vocals, but both had weaknesses. Mark could sing a slower, more emotional song while Rick could rock the house with the harder ones. These guys made magic together, and it's a shame to see them gone. Thankfully, they were able to pull off this beauty before it was all over. They made 3 other cds after this one, but nothing could match the brilliance of this one. Highly recommended.I was already a fan when this album came out." Unchain " makes me cry every time I listen to it. Vendetta and Who Owns You are rocking. .

Another Unknown Guitarist Joins My Top 10 of Instrumental Guitar Albums. This is an exquisite ROCK / BLUES / FUSION Abums. JEFF has all the chops and writes some Excellent material. He plays Without The Flashy Style that often dominates a Guitar Albums and turns all but the devotees off. This is subtle - tasteful - Emotional Playing by A Very talented guitarist. Don't Get Me Wrong, There are enough Pyrotechnics on These Albums to please even the VI / SATRIANI Crowd, But where this is superior is in the material. Great tunes with many styles being incorporated seemlessly into the SCHEETZ Sound. Unpredictable till the last tune - A Superb accoustic rendition of ROCK OF AGES -These Albums will keep you Guessing and avoid any pidgeon Hole You might want to squeeze it into. This album was missed by nearly everyone. Released in 1990 it was Petra's phenomenal keyboardist's one and only solo venture. Although it does have Petra influences it has a sound all it's own due to the fact that Lawry uses practically all Keyboards for the whole album. Think 80's era Genesis but much more rockin'. He has a great voice as well. I remember the first time I heard it being blown away because his BGV's always sounded great in Petra songs and he can certainly handle lead as well. My three favorite songs are the title track, "Video Logic" and "Radio-ology". "Video Logic" has a very cool message about being tuned-in to what we let ourselves consume as Christians. Every Petra fan needs to have this in their collection. By the way He Has Long Career before Have Been performed This Album, with the Following Band, making part on Joe English Band And Made Up Forerunner.John Lawry (Born June 15, 1950) is a Christian musician, composer, producer, and songwriter. He is most remembered for being the keyboardist of Christian rock band Petra during their most prolific years.According to his personal testimony as recorded on Petra's Captured In Time and Space live album, John was born in Japan and was subsequently adopted by an American family from Michigan. Some sources cite John as having grown up in Flint, Michigan, others cite Millington, Michigan, but both cities are in the same general area of the state.Lawry showed musical skills from an early age. When he was 9, he learned to play the accordion. When he grew up he went to Millington High School and was involved in the school band. He graduated in 1969 and continued working in music. Lawry contributed to several projects during the following years. In 1982, he joined the Joe English Band and recorded three albums with them. He also recorded with the band Forerunner. In 1984 he joined Petra recording a total of nine albums with the band. During this period, the band won 3 Grammys and several other awards.John was initially introduced to Petra fans while on the European dates of the Not of This World tour in August of 1984. After completing the tour, Lawry had not fully committed to the Band until told by Petra's European Road Manager that he was annoited to become a part of Petra. Lawry then stayed with Petra for the next 10 years.John's first studio appearance with Petra was on their Beat the System album in 1984. While Petra had stocked a resident keyboardist (John Slick) for some time, Lawry's entrance into the band brought a new, more "modern" sound that would stay with the band for the entirety of Lawry's tenure. In 1986, Lawry played a keyboard solo on Greg X. Volz (Former Petra Lead Singer) First Solo Effort. He also released a solo album called Media Alert in 1990.Lawry left Petra in 1994 to dedicate to a career producing and recording. He was replaced by his keyboard technician, Jim Cooper. He also Released another Solo album In 1997 titled Excursions. In 2005, Lawry joined the stage again with Petra during one of the band's final presentations that was released as the Petra Farewell CD and DVD.Lawry married his wife, Stefanie, and has two sons, Jeremy and Nick. Stefanie's voice was sampled for "Jesus Loves You".(http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/.

BIOGRAPHY:.

The origin of the Bay Area melodic metal band Soldier can be traced back to a top-40 band named Rex that included Vocalist Jimmy Arceneaux (pronounced Are-sen-nah) and Bassist Marc Allyn. Following the break up of Rex, the two decided to form a new band and soon recruited A Talented Guitarist by the name of Rick Hunter. On the same night he joined forces with Arceneaux and Allyn, Hunter received a call from Drummer Al Whalen who said he was looking for A Band. The rest, as they say, is history. Soldier proceeded to put together its first demo Louder Than Hell before recording its second, the full length and critically acclaimed Babylon. While Soldier might best be described as Heavy but Melodic Eighties Influenced commercial metal, you can hear elements in their sound as diverse as classic metal, melodic hard rock, blues and even a few moments that touch upon speed metal. Ultimately, I always identified with Soldier, who played live with the likes of Vicious Rumors, Vain and Y&T, as the Bay Area's answer to Stryper. Yes, the quality of the music and musicianship were that high. Arceneaux brings a very fine Melodic Flavored Voice with just a slight touch of grit in addition to filling in on rhythm guitar. Hunter is a mean and nasty in your Face Guitarist with a fast paced and aggressive style. Marc Allyn and Al Whalen round out a tight and solid rhythm section. Please note that the 2002 M8 release The Definitive Collection consists of all the material appearing on both of Soldier's demo, Louder Than Hell and Babylon, tapes in addition to the two tracks the band recorded for the California Metal II compilation. An overall element of muddiness characterizes the production to Babylon, particularly its low end. On the other hand, I can honestly say its sonics are some of the finest I have heard on A Demo from its era. (Please keep in mind this was a self-financed project by an unsigned band recorded using Late-Eighties Technology.) The brief (1:30) Instrumental "Babylon" opens the album to blowing wind before An Acoustic Guitar backed by a bit of distorted Rhythm Guitar Carries it forward.Kicking in to A Fast paced Riff bordering on Speed Metal, "Louder Than Hell" advances in an energetic manner until it reaches a powerful chorus bolstered by deep sounding vocal harmonies. Hunter's mean sounding lead guitar work gives way to a bass solo and a pounding riff. "Louder Than Hell" refers to being louder than the satanic forces of the world,

The superb Dokken-ish melodic metal of "Deadly Weapons" progresses through its first verse at a steady mid-tempo pace until it gains momentum for a chorus with a great catchy hook. The song slows just before Hunter cuts loose with a fiery solo underscored by a muscular bass line. As its title implies, "Deadly Weapons" talks about spiritual warfare.Moving the album in a more commercial melodic hard rock direction, "One Of A Kind" immediately takes off in up-tempo fashion as a crunchy rhythm guitar quickly propels it to a good non-stop hook filled chorus. Several seconds of melodic flavored lead guitar work brings out the best in a song talking about God's love..After "Priceless Heart" gets going at a driving mid-tempo clip, it tapers off as an edgy blues flavored guitar riff sustains its first verse. The huge anthem-like chorus that follows will refuse to leave your head upon repeated listening. Hunter's aggressive lead guitar work perfectly complements the songs bluesy feel. "Priceless Heart" talks about God's faithfulness during the trials and tribulations of life.Carried through its first verse by an acoustic guitar, “Where Have All The Children Gone” picks up in pace as the rhythm guitar kicks in and shores up a melodic flavored chorus delivered at an upbeat tempo. Hunter contributes several seconds of blues based lead guitar work to a song whose subject matter is self-explanatory.The powerful "King Of The City" is by far the albums strongest track. Subsequent to a metal edged rhythm guitar driving the song ahead with a ton of upbeat energy, a trace of vocal harmonies underscores a superlative chorus that, if given the opportunity, would have dominated MTV and FM radio. Hunter graces the scene with several seconds of intense lead guitar work."Borderline" moves forward hard and heavy as the rhythm guitar bounces in and out of the mix at the start of its first verse. The rhythm guitar, nevertheless, remains a steady presence as the song attains a strong hard hitting chorus. Hunter furnishes several seconds of the albums best lead guitar work.I have never been able to warm up to the commercial flavored pop metal of "Angel". While by no means a throwaway, the songs chorus is not quite strong enough to always keep my attention. That being said, I can see how other fans of Soldier would find "Angel" appealing.Opening to several seconds of melodic rhythm guitar harmony, "First Time" moves through its verse to a crisp sounding rhythm guitar. Background vocals accent the song as it attains a chorus giving rise to a good commercial feel. As its title implies, "First Love" talks about returning to your first love.Once an acoustic guitar introduces "Promises", a hard hitting riff steadily conveys it to a very fine emotionally charged chorus. I like how "Promises" closes Babylon in the same manner it opened to an acoustic guitar backed by blowing wind. "Promises" details how God always keeps His promises. As for the two tracks appearing on the California Metal II compilation, "Borderline" and "Tears", White Throne editor Dave Johnson sums it up best,.The material from Louder Than Hell is a bit rough around the edges production wise but showcases the bands promise. After fading in to several seconds of keyboards, "Heart Of Stone" launches into a fast paced riff that pushes it to a chorus backed by a touch of vocal harmonies. Hunter nails a blistering guitar solo that bounces between the left and right channel. The pop metal of "Somebody New", similar to "Angel", has never grown on me. Perhaps it is the weakness of the production, but I find that the songs chorus to be not quite strong enough in order for it to always hold up under repeated play.Since "Angel" also made its way onto Babylon, there is no need to comment further. While the live versions of "King Of The City", "Glory & Honor", "Priceless Heart" and "Heart Of Stone" appearing on Louder Than Hell lack a bit of polish, I am certainly glad the band chose to include them. The upbeat melodic metal of "Glory & Honor" is the only song on The Definitive Collection never recorded by Soldier in the studio. Advancing through its verse at an upbeat tempo, the song culminates for a chorus delivered with an abundance of the bands trademark energy. "Glory & Honor" stands out as a Christian metal anthem. Not every story has a happy ending and such is the case with Soldier. Despite releasing one of the finest demo tapes of its era, Soldier never signed a deal and in the end broke up. Once again, I will let White Throne editor Dave Johnson sum it up.Rick Hunter went on to form Regime in the early nineties; an excellent melodic hard rock band that recorded an eight song demo entitled Straight Through Your Heart. The other members of Soldier were never heard from again. Please note that Soldier appeared on the Metal Mardis Gras video performing live versions of "Somebody New" and "King Of The City". Soldier also recorded footage of most of its live performance that hopefully one day will be released on DVD(http://www.holymetal.org/)

this is alll started with a bignamed on the secular market then after have been realeased some albums and made some tours one of the members desided to quited the band due that he converted to the christianism so he disided to take a new direction on its new road then he calls other guys to continued the band but not more under the social view but under the new faith in christ,so that's why I just can count the last three albums as christians released about their debut they are not christian as for me, the christian albums they have released. are here on my blog.although they are very weirds with the lirycs cuz they lack of knowledge of the true new faith.but this is my opinion ,i think they came back to quickly to STAGE to represent what they had found on their lives that's why they are very poor on their christian lirycs but anyway here are what they have become on their last three albums.

Christian Metal, Metal in the style of Jag Panzer with Guitar leads in the style of Yngwie and Uli Roth & Soaring vocals infl.by Bruce Dickenson.Classic power metal with Bruce Dickenson style vocals.Great guitar leads and good song structures. Lyrics are better on this than on Trangressor. Top notch stuff! I love United at the Front.http://www.septerband.com/.Yes I know, this album is already available for three years now, but it’s kinda tough to find it. The Christian rock scene is very rich, but it’s rather unusual to read about these bands in the so-called ‘regular’ metal magazines. Listening to the eight songs on this album though, it would be a shame to leave this for what it is, and enjoy it on my own. Songs like “Transgressor” and “Blood And Dishonor” are rough diamonds, and a real must for fans of JAG PANZER or WATCHTOWER. Great instrumental parts with many speed changes and A Good Vocalist, who screams his lungs out. SEPTER consists of Hawk On Guitar, Paul Dailey on guitar, Kevin Truell on Vocals, Jeff Kmiec on Drums and Matt Weaver on Bass. “You Better Believe” is a very balladesque song, but with “Tonight” they hit the nail right on the head again. While “Vesuvious” is another hot and steaming tune, as the title predicts already. Add to this the mighty powerful vocals, which makes it to another highlight. The only disappointment is that the album only lasts for about thirty-five minutes. But these were thirty-five heavenly minutes, if I may say so. “The God Key” is the title of the newest release by this band, and I am definitely going to check that one out as well, because after listening to “Transgressor”, I really want to hear more. “Slipping Away” and “Last Days” close this marvellous CD, which deserves to be reviewed in this section, even three years after its original release. Is it that good? Better judge for yourself!(http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/

BIOGRAPHY:
PLACE OF SKULLS was formed in 2000 by Ex-Pentagram Puitarist Victor Griffin (The Name Being A Biblical reference to Golgotha, because of Griffin’s new found faith in Christianity). Tim Tomaselli (Ex-Molly Hatchet) was found as a suitable drummer and long time friend and Bass Player Lee Abney, with whom Victor had founded the legendary Death Row back in 1980, before later turning into Pentagram, agreed to join PLACE OF SKULLS as well... A new legend was born...After doing some songwriting and rehearsing, the band recorded a Demo in the year 2000 which secured them a deal with Man’s Ruin Records. Unfortunately, Man’s Ruin went out of business in 2002 and their debut album was instead released on Southern Lord Recordings. Since the Demo only had three songs, PLACE OF SKULLS had started writing more material to be able to record "Nailed" one year later. The album, as well as the limited s/t 7 inch EP were released in 2002, gaining much respect from the international press and media. Actually, the band had also recorded four songs that where Very Explicitly Christian that Southern Lord rejected them for inclusion on the debut album, and the band needed to re-enter the studio to record a couple of other songs to appear on the "Nailed" album ("Dead", "Love she gave" and The Animals cover "Don't let me be misunderstood"). The rejected songs were released on the "Love Through Blood" EP some years later in 2005 on Outlaw Recordings. Also in 2002, Lee Abney decided to part ways with the band (he would re-enter in 2007 though), leaving Victor in search of a new bass player. After a while, Greg Turley, yet another musician that had been playing with Pentagram (During 1995 / 1996), was found to fill in the empty space. But the most spectacular addition had yet to come... That same year, no one less than Scott "Wino" Weinrich (The Obsessed / Saint Vitus) entered the Band on Guitars / Vocals As Well, after having split up Spirit Caravan. The Griffin / Wino duo (who had been living together in an apartment in Maryland in 1986 and even worked on some songs back then) managed to write another bunch of excellent Doom compositions which were unleashed upon mankind as "With Vision" in 2003.Even if "With Vision" was quite a success for the band, PLACE OF SKULLS sort of fell apart after the release... Greg Turley decided to leave the band and Wino left to concentrate on his new band The Hidden Hand. Luckily, Dennis Cornelius of Revelation / Oversoul fame agreed on joining PLACE OF SKULLS on Bass, but soon Drummer Tom Tomaselli anounced he no longer wanted to play. The three agreed on doing a final show though, and started to rehearse for that, which had to become the farewell gig of PLACE OF SKULLS. Somehow, doing those rehearsals an especially playing the live show in Tennessee on February 18th 2005, encouraged them to continue and start working on new material for "The Black Is Never Far". The album, recorded later in 2005, also featured original member Lee Abney on three of the songs, because Dennis had already relocated to Oklahoma, and was released on Exile on Mainstream Records in 2006.Not much has been heard from PLACE OF SKULLS since their latest release, except from some liveshows and a tour in September 2006. Lee Abney rejoined in 2007 as where Dennis left the Band and is currently concentrating on his new band Dwell Within, sort of a continuation of Oversoul.(http://www.holymetal.org/)

If you’re an ‘80s rock kind of groover and your spandex trousers are wasting away in the wardrobe. If you used to have big hair and wail into a hairbrush along with your favourite ‘80s rockers. Or if you just can’t get off playing air guitar to these alternative rock new kids on the block and a thrill trickles down your spine when you remember the time when you were concussed by that Stryper Bible hitting you on the head, this is the album for you. ‘A Tribute To The Past’ is exactly that! An album that pays homage to a pile of ‘80s Christian rockers from Stryper to Bloodgood to Jerusalem. German band Treasure Seeker are the ultimate ‘80s Christian rock tribute band and they recreate the sound with a careful attention to detail. Rez’s “Silence Screams” screams out, Leviticus’ “Flames Of Fire” sets the speakers alight! Classic material like “To Hell With The Devil” is all here and although the whole concept does seem faintly ridiculous, it’s fun remembering just how OTT some of this stuff was! Buy the album, fish out the fright wig and get ready to rock’n’roll! Is that the rumblings of an ‘80s revival I can hear in the bass bin?http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/.

BIOGRAPHY:
One journalist described the music of Midlands four-piece V-Rats as "a full throttle head on collision between Thin Lizzy and T-Rex." Add to that a touch of funk from the band's extraordinary bass player, singer and composer Pete Emms and you have some impression of what the band's debut album 'Intelligent Design' sounds like. Said Pete, "We really are at peak performance playing live and we tried to capture that vibe in the album. I guess we're a Marmite band, you either love us or hate us but you can't ignore us! I can handle any reaction you have about us except for indifference!".

The band, consisting of Pete Emms (vocals, bass), Paul May (guitar), Mike Dejager (guitar) and Rob Allen (drums), have a wealth of musical experience behind them and although the V-Rats (originally called The Vaseline Rats) have only recently settled on their current line up, their existence has been something gnawing at the back of Emms' brain for many a long year. Admitted Pete, "I was looking at doing The Vaseline Rats years ago. The name was really a stupid comment Deep Purple and Whitesnake's manager John Coletta made to me. But it kind of stuck. I'm amazed the controversy it stirs up, it's just two words with no hidden meaning or ambiguity. But it seems to get people outta shape and we get a lot of static over it. On the flip side, some people love the name. So, as we have evolved we have abbreviated it to The V-Rats. Anyway, V-Rats makes for a better logo and we can fit it on the front of Rob Allen's bass drum!".

Pete was born in West Bromwich in the heart of the Black Country. He recounted, "I was raised in Wednesbury in pre-slum clearance housing, so it was a pretty rough and tough upbringing. My dad died when I was three years old and I came from an original single parent background before it became fashionable and pretty much grew up on the streets. I've been involved in music as far back as I can remember. Some of my first memories are being a roadie for my sister's band at the age of four! So I was involved with that up until I started playing keyboards at the age of 12, then guitar and then fell in love with the bass guitar at the age of 13, about the time I left home.

"I didn't have anything to do with Church or any form of 'religion' until I became a Christian in 1989. Prior to that I was heavily involved in a LOT of bad stuff and lived the rock and roll lifestyle in all its accesses. I always say it was the Jews that led me to Jesus because I read an article about the Jews returning to Israel as modern day biblical prophecy happening in our times, so I started to read the Bible to disprove it as nonsense. Hence to say I was confronted in Scripture by the living God and realised I had to make a choice. Consequently I got born again. I really was 'catapulted' from the dominion of darkness to the Kingdom of God! So, no man had a hand in my 'conversion,' it really was all God. I think that's stood me in good steed over the years. With all the nonsense I've had to deal with from other Christians over the years, I can never deny the real experience of God coming into my life.".

One of Pete's school friends was Paul May who was eventually to gain a considerable reputation in the world of rock music. Remembered Pete, "We attended the same school and kinda shared the same gigs and he hung out in the music store I worked in, so we sort of 'orbited' each other in the music scene back in the late '70s and both recognised each other's potential. We eventually got together in a very metal band called Arcana in the '80s which evolved through our time living in London into the band A.N.D. Paul and I continued to cross paths through various session work we were involved in and after Paul got saved, I did some 'guest' stuff with A.N.D. and have done bits and pieces in the Church with him, but only started to really work together as in the old days since Paul joined The V-Rats. I needed a world class guitarist in The Rats so Paul was my first choice. A.N.D. is still on the boil and I've been playing bass with Paul and Dave Rowley's Temple Dogs." .

Long in the tooth Cross Rhythms festival goers might remember the appearance of the band Hush, an aggregation fronted by Pete, at the festival in 1995. Said the singer/bassist, "With Hush I made the mistake of using everyone from my Church who were also involved in the worship team. I stupidly thought I was giving the guys an opportunity to stretch their musical abilities and talents. However, the 'leader' of the church thought otherwise and I was accused of trying to be a rock star and leading the other guys astray! I was told the band was not from God and he refused to give the band his blessing (but it was still okay for me to lead worship!) The other guys in Hush didn't want to be involved and quickly retreated for fear of the consequences.".

Before their demise Hush made one recording, a self-titled EP. Commented Pete, "Funnily enough I found a folder the other day with dozens of letters and requests from all over the world for the track we released. It just seemed such a wasted opportunity!"

After the Hush debacle, Pete understandably felt somewhat beat up. He said, "I basically went back to a 'hired gun' in session work and did some stuff with guys from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Tygers Of Pan Tang. Did a major tour of the east coast of the States with them alongside Obituary, Testament and Ice T. Finished off some albums, I picked up endorsement deals from Spector Bass guitars in New York and spent a lot of time over there. I was writing and recording new material for myself and wanted an outlet for this. So, thought I'd work on The Vaseline Rats." In 2007 The Rats released a self-titled EP to test the water. It was enthusiastically received by metalheads and Pete began looking around to establish a firm line up. All four members of V-Rats are Christians though as Pete well knows, the term "Christian band" is a rather pejorative phrase in the mainstream. He commented, "Saying you're a Christian band to the world has the same reaction from non-Christians as someone saying 'we're an Islamic band, or a Buddhist band!' People are generally really not interested in religion or politics in music and tend to switch off. They are more likely to be influenced by your character and behaviour than your words. Even non-Christians know what bad fruit looks like! Either way, I just say blossom where you're planted.".

For the future V-Rats intend to play as many gigs as they can. Enthused Pete, "Playing live is what we do best. We're back in Los Angeles in January. 'Intelligent Design' is getting great reviews and we are looking forward to seeing how the next year pans out. We have some stuff lined up with a new endorsement deal with Marshall Amplification we picked up. So we're all set to go into places where even angels fear to tread!".

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM:
UK based V-Rats represents a joining of Vocalist/Bassist Pete MZ Emms, Guitarists Paul May and Mike DeJager and Drummer Rob Allen. Emms, who has nine album credits to date, has toured and played with some of the UK’s biggest names, including Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Trapeze and The Charlatans. May brings a resume with over fifty album credits in addition to having worked with former Judas Priest vocalist Al Atkins, Janus, Dave Holland (Trapeze), Roy Wood (ELO) and Emms (in the Christian metal band A.N.D.). Originally hailing from South Africa, DeJager also features quite the impressive resume in having toured with Dante Fox and Al Atkins while founding the world’s first broadband guitarist TV channel, Guitarist TV. Rob Allen has toured throughout the UK, Europe and USA and once was briefly a member of the psychedelic punk group The Damned.
With a vast wealth of experience in the music industry to draw upon, V-Rats debuted in 2007 with a four song EP entitled EPic before following up in the summer of 2008 with the full length effort Intelligent Design. The album finds the group showcasing a blend of hard rock and metal backed by some heavy groove, funk and blues based moments. Fans of early nineties Bride, Love War, Die Happy and Red Sea will find a lot to like here as will those into Resurrection Band, Gethsemane Rose, F.O.G. and Heartcry. Standout cuts include up-tempo hard rockers “Know Definition” and “Devil To Pay” – two shorter but energy laden tracks – in addition to the driving metal of “Dirty Little Secret”, “All The Ones You Want” and “Blood, Demons & Whiskey”. “Point Of No Return” and “So Over You” head in a slower, more mid-paced direction while “et al” delivers a ton of groove and “Lisa” an acoustic laced environs.Emms brings a smooth and clean mid-ranged vocal style that fits perfectly with the bluesy metal/hard rock genre. He also is a killer bass player, as the likes of “Intro”, Dirty Little Secret” and “Point Of No Return” demonstrate with their resounding bass lines. May and DeJager prove equally able with their riveting guitar work, the two trading off on lead guitar throughout the project, most notably on “et al”, “Lisa” and “Blood, Demons & Whiskey”.Production values are of a high professional standard in amalgamating a pronounced low end with an upfront mix of rhythm guitar and clean sounding lead guitar. While not a Christian project in terms of its lyrical direction, Intelligent Design focuses on life, lost love and relationships from a positive standpoint. The group does, however, make forward statements of faith on “Know Definition” and “Point Of No Return”.The album gets underway with “Intro”, a short instrumental (:35) sustained by a thumping bass line.Gritty hard rocker “No Good For Me” can best be described as quintessential V-Rats, amalgamating a scratchy rhythm guitar sound with a too the point chorus and plethora of

unrelenting impetus. May showcases an aggressive touch on lead guitar throughout the songs driving instrumental section. The subject matter here revolves around putting an end to an unhealthy relationship:

BIOGRAPHY:
A couple of years after 1967's Summer Of Love had faded and a generation of hippies were becoming increasingly disillusioned, a new movement emerged on the West Coast of America. Addled by drugs and confused by a myriad of mystic eastern religions and a mix and match of macrobiotic diets and whatever other fads were circulating at the time, a generation of long haired hippies began to turn from the counter culture to discover the realities of a relationship with Christ. The church was the last place they would think of finding the truth but when they checked it out, there it was: life-transforming truth!

One of the first bands to mix hippie pop rock music with their new found faith were Love Song. During their brief time together they became catalysts for the whole Jesus movement. Today, more than three decades on, Love Song are still revered. The Encyclopedia Of Contemporary Christian Music called them "the most important Christian rock band of all time" while their seminal self-titled album of 1972 has been reissued several times. At the GMA week in Nashville I met up with Chuck Girard, the singer and composer with Love Song and got him to recall those groundbreaking years with the group. Chuck was formerly of the Hondells and a pop music veteran of surf-and-car songs. Chuck commented, "I guess it's safe to say that I'm a three-hit wonder! With two different groups though. I had a hit in my senior year at high school. I'm older than I look. And I graduated in 1961. In my senior year I had a hit on the Billboard charts with my group that I started in high school. We were called the Castells and our song was called 'Sacred'. It was only Top 20. It never went Top 10 or anything. But it was a big enough hit to give us a taste of success. The preceding record had gone bubbling under on Billboard, which means you don't quite make the charts. Then this one made the charts. Third record went bubbling under. Forth record, which was called 'So This Is Love', went Top 20.".

He continued, "So that was our introduction to fame and all that. No fortune, but fame. It kept my interest up. Through that season of time I ran into a guy named Gary Usher. What we used to do in those days were called 'sock hops', where the DJs in town would put on a public appearance event for fans. You didn't get paid. It was for promotion. In those days you didn't actually perform but you lip-synched to your records. The kids at least got to see the group in person and it was pretty low pressure as far as performing and all that. So through that I met this guy named Gary Usher who'd co-written a big song with the Beach Boys called 'In My Room'. Gary was doing studio work and he invited me to be part of the studio crew. So I did that for about four years. I made records under all kinds of different names. We made hot rod albums, surf albums, monster albums. Nothing was ever really designed. In our minds we never thought anything was ever gonna amount to much. But Nick Venet, who had actually been the producer at Capitol Records that discovered the Beach Boys, was now working for Mercury Records. He knew Gary and he ordered an album and this was an album that came out as The Hondells. The first time that I knew the song was on the radio was when I heard it on the radio! It went on to be a Top 10 record - "Little Honda" by The Hondells. So those were the three songs that I was associated with that were hits. A lot of fun. It's just enough fame to keep you going when you've had a little bit of success and you've heard your record on the radio. It's a little more sophisticated now. But I still think for any young artist it's got to be a thrill to hear your record on the radio the first time. It was certainly that for us and that was the beginning of it. I never thought I would do anything any different with my life and I haven't. So it's worked out as I planned!".

By the early 1970s, Girard's surf and car hits were just a memory and he had teamed with fellow musicians Tommy Coomes, Jay Truax and Fred Field and the band were active on the local live scene before all four were converted to Christianity through attending Bible studies. The group then began playing at meetings organised by Calvary Chapel, the groundbreaking church pastured by a "Hippie Preacher" called Chuck Smith. Today it may be hard to believe that a band playing Christian songs in a pop rock style was something revolutionary. But these are the years before there was really anything you could identify as contemporary Christian music. Love Song, along with a handful of other adventurous bands, were pioneering something very new.

Love Song were named before they ever did Christian music. Girard remembered how it happened, "There was a fella named Jack Schaeffer that came up with the name. He was never in the band but he said, 'I've got a great name for a band!' I think he called it 'The Love Song'. We left the 'The' off. When we got born again a few years later we thought about different names, changing our name. We didn't want to do anything gospelly-sounding or religious-sounding. We thought, well you know, we've got a pretty good name because now our music is about God's love. So we just stuck with the name and just figured we'd tell people, anybody that remembered us from before, we'd say, 'Well the band got born again.

Love Song played locally and toured for months and eventually recorded a debut album which was released in 1972 which captured the pure melody of their music and the strong harmonies of the group. They were uncompromising in the message and the self-titled album became a classic amongst the Jesus Freak generation which was emerging into popular culture from the West Coast.

Speaking to Girard about some of the songs recorded in the early '70s, it seemed like each one brought back memories. Talking about "Jesus Puts The Song In Our Hearts", Chuck said, "This was a very special song. We had just gotten born again. We had been living in Laguna Beach. We knew all the drug dealers and we knew we had to get out of there. We were living very well. We were actually a kind of an anomaly for the time! We were hippies with money! We had a little communal kind of setting. About eight or nine of us lived in a home in Laguna Beach. We could put together a couple of working bands that worked in nightclubs so we were bringing home pay cheques. We lived fairly well but we really realised that we had to get out of there because of the influence of knowing all the drug dealers. Knowing all the drug scene in that town."

He continued, "So someone 'donated' to us a room for the time being, above a garage. No insulation as I recall. Just the bare studs and the tar paper on the wall and all that. So the four of us each took a wall and put our sleeping bags down. And that was our living quarters for the next three or four months. One night we just pulled out our guitars and were worshipping God. We weren't trying to write a song, even a worship song. We didn't really know about all that stuff in those days. We just were in love with the Lord and wanted to worship him in some way. Fred Field started playing the chords that go to that song and it was created in about an hour, in an act of worship. Everything just came together spontaneously. Even the little round parts, where we repeat the lines. And we sang it the next day in church. That's how I remember it was written on a Saturday night because we sang it Sunday morning at church at Calvary Chapel."

It's impossible to underestimate the impact of Love Song in the early '70s. Their 'Love Song' album was hugely influential despite the limited distribution that Good News Records had at the time. In The Encyclopedia Of Contemporary Christian Music author Mark Allan Powell boldly called it "the best Christian album ever recorded, on a par with 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.

However important the music seems looking back, Girard and the band didn't have much of a clue about how important it was. He observed, "Everything that happened in those days was pretty much without planning or guile or the way the industry runs today. We were sort of inventing the rules as we went along. Of course there was a music scene but we weren't really a part of that because our music was so different from what would be considered standard gospel. So we didn't really know, in any way, how to function. It was just live performances. You played at churches. You played at a campus, with all the radical students. Every kind of situation was presented to us. So you had to kind of write the rules as you went along. There were no trade journals in those days, no radio stations actually playing the music on any regular basis. Once in a while somebody would pick up a song and play it in the context of the rest of the music but it wasn't until years later that there were actually speciality stations. CCM came along a few years later, which was the first contemporary Christian music magazine."

Continued Chuck, "The things that are concerns today weren't even on our minds. Like nowadays everybody's looking at demographics and who your core audience is and radio-friendly records and all that. Our music was just music that came from our heart, our experiences with the Lord. We had some industry input. When we finally did get signed to a label and records started to come out there was input. But we really were blessed to be able to make the records that we wanted to without any considerations for industry kind of things."

Girard's daughter Alisa is a member of the popular girl group ZOEgirl - soon to disband - who have been very successful in the modern CCM scene. Girard observed, "We've had an interesting time watching her sort through the stuff the industry throws at you, having been raised by us and seeing our struggles with the industry. It's quite a different thing today. But back then we were inventing the rules and building the roads. It was a lot of fun in some ways. It was frustrating in other ways. But I think at the very end of the day, it was a really exciting time of innocence and new beginnings. People were really wonderful to us. People in the churches where we went to play where we looked quite different from them, embraced us. And the industry largely embraced us. It was a good time overall."

These days amongst older Christian music fans, Girard is a little bit of a living legend. He's still making music and ministering. Was he aware that he's a living legend? "It is both an honour but at the same time a bit embarrassing," he responded. "I know almost better than anyone that the whole era of the '70s Jesus Movement was an extraordinary visitation by God. I was a musician that responded to his love and he allowed me to be a part of something very amazing. I'm grateful for his anointing on my music, and that he's allowed me to be used into the fourth decade. So, being called a living legend from time to time massages my ego in a good way, even though I know that the source of anything I've achieved is God's plan and me involved in that. God is the true living legend."

Love Song only recorded two studio sets in the early '70s - their self-titled debut and 'Final Touch' - as well as a live album recorded on a reunion tour in the mid '70s. A few years back, the band reformed to re-record some of their classic songs with new arrangements for a project called 'Welcome Home'. With heartening modesty Girard plays down "the greatest Christian music album" claim for 'Love Song'. "I'm too close to it to evaluate that kind of observation. I know this: It was born from a lot of prayer and was a collection of songs that truly came directly from the hearts and lives of a bunch of very grateful guys. I also must say that assigning 'best of' titles to anything which is creative is so subjective. Who makes that evaluation? Are they qualified to do so? It's all just an opinion, and everyone has one. Truth is that there are always many works which mean so many different things to so many people, that making such judgements only contributes to a spirit of competition and can hurt feelings of those who think their work is just as important as the next guy's. From the day that the first CCM magazine came out with best of lists, I have felt that this kind of thing is a copy of the world, and really has no place in Christendom. But again, if you have to compare, it's still flattering to have your album named best.".

Considering how important the Jesus Movement era is for the development of contemporary Christian music, it's amazing how little has been written on the subject. From nearly 40 years away, it seems like it was a genuine revival with thousands of people sweeping into the Kingdom and as the '70s unfolded, a large number of bands and artists emerging using rock and pop to reach others.

Girard observed about those times, "From day one, this move of God has been underrated and under reported. From the beginning, I've heard that it wasn't a real revival and that the effect wouldn't last. It was criticised by some because for the first time in modern history, Christianity 'became cool'. The conventional thinking was that since it was the "in" thing to get born again, that many if not most conversions were shallow and wouldn't last. 40 years of history have proven that idea to be very wrong. As I travel even today, there are thousands who come out to the concerts, who have a story, who still love and serve God 40 years later. I believe that it was in every way a true revival, and that the effect was staggering.".

He continued, "Another factor may be that the times were so 'laid back', that it may not have been the trend to document the event. There was certainly a leadership gap created by the hippie kind of attitude of the day that may have spilled over into the reporting of the phenomena. It's just an observation. The spontaneity of the event may also play a part. It was all about Jesus and his message of salvation. No one sat around a table formulating a plan. People weren't thinking about personal gain, documentation, or that we might even be making history in a way. So now we are left with our memories for the most part and no one even seems to be thinking about documenting it even today.".

By the mid '70s, Love Song went their separate ways. Girard explained why it happened. "You have to remember that the band were baby Christians thrust into a position of great, great popularity and fame for the day. And it happened very quickly. Once the media hit Calvary Chapel, it grew from about 200 to 2000 in less than six months! And within that period of time all the media were flocking down there to get soundbites and interviews. It was a great place because you had this cross-section of people from every strata of the culture. The straight people, the little old ladies, businessmen, hippies. So we had all of this happening to us so quickly and our star rose very quickly. Interestingly we never were together long enough to really become internationally famous, in the sense that we travelled much as the group. But our records made it worldwide and then we travelled throughout the US and Canada. It was a lot of pressure on us, to answer the question. As young Christians, our look was very 'heavy'. We looked 'deep'; like we really were these mighty men of God when really we were just a bunch of baby Christians. At the end of three years there were a number of factors. Part of it was that we were trapped by our own fame. That first album was such a part of the DNA of so many people. It meant so much to so many people that it was hard to move past that. You'd try to introduce new songs and people would tolerate them but it was more like, 'Okay, we want to hear the ones on the first album!' So it was really hard to introduce new material.".

Girard paused and reflected, then observed, "There was a lot of talent in the group. There were writers, a lot of singers. There wasn't enough space on the album for people to have a place to express their talent. So we just kind of felt at the end of about three years that we were on a roll. We were at the height of our popularity and were uncomfortable in this particular wineskin. So we decided to disband. The kind of deal we made with the Lord was, 'If it's not of you make us miserable and if it's okay with you let us have a peace about it.' Everyone felt a peace about it. Some of the guys went on in music and formed other groups. I stayed a solo artist. Some of the other guys didn't get right back into music. But we needed room to grow as Christians and I think that's really what it produced. Now I never really got out of the performing or the ministry scene but it was a whole different thing to be solo as opposed to being in a group. So for me it was a liberating experience as well. We just needed it for growth and it was the Lord's time, as I look back on it.".

30 years after the group split, there are still occasions when the band will get back together to play concerts. Girard observes, "None of us ever closed the door to this wineskin, and there have been opportunities over the years to reunite. There was a great confusion in the early '70s when many hippie types equated the lifestyle and values of the hippie lifestyle with true Christianity. Christianity is not about a culture, but about a relationship with Jesus, which is played out in many cultural settings. Many hippie types left the Church when they saw cultural change and a diminishing of hippie values. Today, they are wary and unhappy with the current Church and won't attend a service. But they will go to a concert. To me, this is the main value of a Love Song or any other reunion concert of a defunct group, and I'm always open to the opportunity." These days Chuck Girard is mostly involved in worship music and his long solo career has included many releases that are also worth checking out. But that's another Cross Rhythms feature.

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUMS:
The American Encyclopaedia Of Christian Music (a volume I've come to deeply distrust) cites this as the greatest Christian album of all time. I have to disagree with the hyperbole but observe that it is a milestone recording. In the late '60s, a bunch of hippie musicians became Christians in the middle of the Jesus Freak revolution on the West Coast. They carried on making music but this time it reflected their new found faith. In 1972 they recorded this debut album and at the time, there wasn't anything on the market that sounded as contemporary as this and Love Song became Christian music pioneers. The four piece band featured Chuck Girard on keyboards, Tom Coomes and Bob Wall on guitar and Jay Truax on bass. It's fair to say that Girard gets the lion's share of the songwriting here and although all the group sing, his voice stands out. Standout songs include the opening "A Love Song" which sets the scene both lyrically and vocally. "Little Country Church" is another classic which observes the changes happening in the church community with the invasion of the newly converted long hairs! It could almost have been written about Calvary Chapel which came into existence at that time. "Front Seat, Back Seat" is a bit of country whilst "Let Us Be One" has a superb acoustic groove. While this isn't the best CCM album ever, it would definitely be in the top 20 and it's an absolute classic if only because it had such a wide influence.Last ish we reviewed 'Final Touch', the other reissue from Love Song's classic Maranatha! Music period. Chuck Girard and co were flower shirted longhairs when they recorded 'Love Song' in 1972. It's dated a little more than 'Final Touch' but still has all the elements, a distinct country tinge, some gently flowing harmonies, which made them the top CCM stars of their era (we're told they sold 400,000 albums in their hey day!)What the Beatles were to rock 'n roll, Love Song was to those of us longing to worship The Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, using the medium of rock as our heartfelt expression of praise. There is no way to describe the deep effect this album has had throughout the years of my life. I gave my life to Jesus in '72 and have never looked back. Thanks, Chuck, Tommy, Jay, Phil and the rest, for giving us this classic! I would love to download or buy the CD. Any clues as to where I could find it? " Final Touch " By the time this project was released in 1974, Love Song had lost guitarist Bob Wall but gained drummer John Mehlor. Keyboardist Chuck Girard, guitarist Tom Coomes and bassist Jay Truax were augmented by steel and slide guitarist Al Perkins. Also it was clear that the life of the band had come to an end with Girard readying a solo career and other members moving on. More electric than their debut album, the volume is turned up without losing any of the melody. Highlights here include the gorgeous "Jesus Puts The Song In Our Hearts" where the band's intertwining vocals are at their finest. In those days in the mid '70s when Armageddon was about to happen when the Ruskies invaded into Israel, perhaps it's okay in "The Cossack Song" to suggest Russian soldiers desert and pray. Despite its lyrical strangeness in this generation, it's still a fantastic bit of guitar driven rock'n'roll with Perkins excelling himself. "Since I Opened The Door" is great country rock and the closing touching "Little Pilgrim" is a fab piano ballad. However unlike their debut album, this doesn't make the same musical and spiritual impact. It was way back in 1974 that this milestone album first saw the light of day and now unexpectedly there are sufficient Jesus music nostalgists around to warrant a re-issue. In fact, Love Song, featuring the expressive voice of Chuck Girard, have reformed and are currently playing gigs Stateside. Does this gentle country/folk/pop rock very much in Crosby, Stills And Nash mould stand up in today's world of grunge and techno? You're durn tooting it does. Listen to that lazy pedal steel on "Since I Opened Up The Door", catch those delicate harmonies on "Think About What Jesus Said" and enjoy the songs from an era when simply singing you loved Jesus seemed revolutionary."Welcome Back" .In the early 70s Love Song were Christian music pioneers, saved in the middle of the Jesus Revolution. They became one of the most influential groups of their day, giving a young Phil Keaggy his first opportunity to play in a Christian band. Now 25 years later, they have reformed to re-record some of their best loved songs from their three 70s albums. But don't worry! There are no techno dance remixes here, only those lush harmony vocals, still wonderfully intact. Their singing sounds as fine as ever. You get updated versions of classics like "A Love Song", "Little Country Church" and "Front Seat, Back Seat" that prove a good song is still a good song even all these years later. These songs sound more than comfortable breathing again in the digital 90s and looking at the list of musos guesting, it's hardly surprising - Hadley Hockensmith, Alex Acuna and Phil Keaggy all contribute. Back in the 70s this was out on the edge pushing back the borders of Christian music. These days it sits firmly in the middle of the road. These are classic songs, totally free of the annoying tweeness that spoils so much soft pop."Reunion" .Jesus music buffs will be familiar with the story of Love Song. Five young men - all previously involved in the drug scene - individually finding their way to Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa, California around the year 1970. Here, under the teaching of Chuck Smith, they all give their lives to the Lord. All being musicians, the five come together and form one of America's first CCM groups; their debut album in 1972 becoming America's best-selling gospel disc of the year. The group continued for three and a half years, though Chuck Girard, who was the main songwriter, and Tommy Coomes have continued on the Christian music scene ever since. With a nostalgic longing, the group reunited in 1995 to record a legacy album (with help from Phil Keaggy, who once toured with the group). This has now been reissued under a new title. Without question the boys can still sing and play and the sound is amazingly good, if at times, of course, rather dated. But it's a great listen, with a variety of styles, including blues, funk, inspirational and good ole rock'n'roll. Melodies are strong and the backing vocals occasionally give a bit of a Beach Boys feel. Every song carries an overt gospel message, and the band were apparently used by God to lead thousands to the Lord. An unusual but fascinating bit of Christian music history.

Guitarist Lou St. Paul is best known for his work in Winters Bane. A band with a history dating back to 1990, Winters Bane included Vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens, who later went on to front Judas Priest and Iced Earth, at the time it recorded its 1993 debut Heart Of A Killer. Girth, the groups 1997 sophomore release, found St. Paul handling lead vocal duties while the 2006 follow up effort Redivisus featured the vocal talents of newcomer Alexander Koch. St. Paul returns two years later with his latest project, Fires Of Babylon. Fires Of Babylon got its start when the owner of Metal Heaven Records requested that St. Paul put together the material for a classic eighties metal album. St. Paul, in turn, proceeded to recruit a literal all star line up, comprising vocalist Rob Rock (Impellitteri) Bassist Kelly Conlon (Monstrosity) and Robert Falzano (Shatter Messiah), prior to entering the studio to record the spring of 2008 self titled debut from Fires Of Babylon. Originally a European release on Metal Heaven Records, Fires Of Babylon was re-issued in the USA by Retroactive Records in the winter of 2009.
Fires Of Babylon delivers what is promised in featuring ten tracks of classic US power metal heavily influenced by the eighties. Fans of St. Paul’s previous work with Winters Bane will find a lot to like here as will those into the various projects Rob Rock has participating over the years, including his four solo albums, material with Impellitteri and Warrior’s Code Of Life. The album breaks down fairly evenly between melodic based tracks and those heading in a more guitar driven direction. The melodic aspect to the bands sound is best reflected in the emotional “Falling To Pieces”, catchy “Revolution Coming” and up-tempo “When The Kingdom Comes” and “Going Through Changes” (two of the albums faster pieces). St. Paul and company, at the same time, pull no punches on heavier tracks such as the muscular “Devilution”, portent “Lake Of Fire”, “Holy Resurrection” (a song driven by a literal wall of rhythm guitar) and anthem-like “Lazarus Rising”. “Generation Of Destruction” and “Castles Are Burning” deliver the total package- fast, heavy and catchy. The best way to describe Fires Of Babylon would be “Riff Orientated Metal”, a description which is testament to the prevailing work of St. Paul. Riffs you will find in abundance here, from fast paced riffs, to slower and Driving Riffs, to Unrelenting Riffs, to Catchy Riffs, to Energetic Riffs, the total package is delivered. Lead guitar wise, St. Paul makes his presence felt as well with his aggressive style of play (just check out the fiery touch he imbues “Falling To Pieces” and “Holy Resurrection” or his mercurial work on “When The Kingdom Comes”).Rob Rock puts forth the type of high quality performance one would expect from him. While staying mostly in even and classic tenor territory, Rob can reach down for a lower register on “Devilution” and “Lake Of Fire” or even add a bit of grit to his delivery on “Lazarus Rising”. .Production values are professionally done in complementing the driving and heavy duty music here.Lyrically, this is one of the most upfront and forthright projects from Rob Rock to date. Now, since it way my initial thought that Fires Of Babylon was going to be a mainstream/secular release along the lines of Warrior’s Code Of Life, I could not help but wonder how Rob got lyrics this bold past the other members of the band. A closer look at the albums liner notes, however, sheds further light on the matter: as it turns out, St. Paul, who openly thanks “my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”, is a Christian as well. Hence, it becomes obvious that the two had previously collaborated and decided upon the lyrical direction taken in question. “Falling To Pieces” jumps out of the gate with a plethora of resolve prior to building to a crescendo of hard hitting riffs and powering drums. Maintaining the unrelenting tempo for its first verse, the song evenly calms upon acquiring a chorus of a, surprisingly, smooth sounding variety. A fiery run of lead guitar highlights a composition talking about maintaining the faith during times of trouble. “Devilution” moves the album in a more aggressive direction. Immediately opening to an ardent joining of rhythm Guitar and Keyboards, the song slams its way ahead in muscular fashion only to gain further momentum for a deep and resounding chorus with a goal of exposing the evil one.St. Paul steps forward with more biting lead guitar. Mid-tempo but heavy as all get out, “Devilution” is aptly entitled:ItI might describe “When The Kingdom Comes” as energetic melodic metal (the frenetic pace established brings to mind Impellitteri). The song advances at an upbeat tempo from the start, rushing through its first and second verse on the way to a sweeping chorus in which a near sublime setting is put into place. “When The Kingdom Comes” touches upon the second coming.“Lake Of Fire” represents the albums only track to border on the heavy handed- but only just slightly and not to the point of becoming overbearing. Slow, driving and resonant, the song takes a near plodding chorus (that almost reflects a doom-like tinge) and backs it with an overriding mix of rhythm guitar. The end result is a rumbling effort that ultimately deals with the final judgment. With its take no prisoners rhythm guitar sound and fixed mid-tempo impetus, “Holy Resurrection” represents one of the more authoritative numbers on Fires Of Babylon. The song begins at once to a prevailing guitar riff, tapering slightly for its verse portions before regaining the impetus for a stalwart chorus in which keyboards play an accentuating role. An edgy run of lead guitar is added to a track focusing on faith and belief.“Going Through Changes” comes across as another emotional and melodic based piece in the vein of “Falling To Pieces”. The song, for a lack of better words, almost sets a land speed record during its furious first verse, not settling down (if only somewhat) until obtaining an even sounding chorus in which making a change for the better is the subject matter. The fiery tempo returns for an instrumental section sustained by a raging Guitar Solo.A weighty mid-tempo environs is established by “Lazarus Rising” throughout its driving verse portions, impetus picking up in an energetic manner for a brief but spirited chorus in which Rob Rock exhibits the full range to his voice. A crisp rhythm guitar opens an instrumental section carried by a fluid stretch of lead guitar. “Lazarus Rising” depicts the resurrection of Lazarus from John 11:1-44: “Revolution Coming” starts slowly and quietly, almost in the form of A Ballad. Upon hitting its first verse, however, the song abruptly picks up in pace as pounding drums play a prominent role in the mix. Conversely, “Revolution Coming” tapers off to a more even tempo as it transitions to what can best be described as one of the albums catchier choruses. St. Paul steps forward with a pull-out-all-the-stops guitar solo. “Revolution Calling” details how a constructive change is on the way:I appreciate the no-nonsense sensibilities – both musically and lyrically – characteristic to “Generation Of Destruction”. With its dominant wall of quickly moving guitar and abundant chorus hook, the song puts in place a foreboding ambience that helps to rank it with the more powerful tracks here. And powerful would be the way to describe the performance of St. Paul with, again, his prodigious guitar riffs and razor-like leads. Lyrically, this one is self explanatory.Fast paced, driven and intense metal, “Castles Are Burning” roars out of the gate with a profusion of animated momentum. The song sustains the all out vigor for its first verse, not backing away from the spirited mindset as it acquires the ardently delivered chorus that follows. I enjoy the time change from a Charging Guitar Riff to a quietly played guitar that takes place during its instrumental section. The lyrics to “Castles Are Burning” come across in the form of a warning(http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/)

Get Real by A.N.D. ranks with the many obscure Christian metal releases to come out of the mid-nineties that failed to get the time and attention they deserved. However, when one stops to consider the era in which Get Real was released, it becomes obvious the blend of classic metal, melodic metal and straightforward hard rock delivered by A.N.D. might not be considered, well, flavor of the month. And by no means is that a band thing in light of the quality music here. With an eighties influenced sound certain to appeal to those into Barren Cross, Saint, Bloodgood, Letter 7 and Mad Max, A.N.D. gives prominence to a more than fair share of guitar driven muscle and just the right amount of notable hooks and melodies to pull you in. And nowhere is that more evident than up-tempo hard rockers “Babylon” and “The Day” in addition to the heavier classic metal influenced sounds of “King” and “Overdrive”. A straightforward hard rock – almost bluesy – direction is taken on “For Sale” and “The Way” (fans of Rez Band will get into these two) but when A.N.D. chooses to mellow things out, such as the laid back ballad “Young Man” and the atmospheric acoustic laced “Touch The Sky”, it can put together a quality composition as well.

A.N.D. is fronted by Vocalist and lead Guitarist Paul May. Bringing a raspy and even mid-octave vocal style, May does not quite posses the range and power of contemporaries Mike Lee (Barren Cross), Les Carlson (Bloodgood) or Josh Kramer (Saint). And that is where the problem lies. Despite putting forth an all around solid showing, May has his limitations vocal wise, reflected in several shaky and unsettled moments found throughout the project. It is in the area of lead guitar, on the other hand, that May shines. Proving quite the talented player, he delivers an abundance of flashy and at times bluesy lead guitar work. Just check out his fiery soloing on “King” and “Babylon” or the grittier direction taken on “For Sale” and “The Way”. “Overdrive”, a track which is half instrumental, gives him the opportunity to showcase his abilities as well. It is worth noting that guitarist John Wylde is given credit as being part of the band in the liner notes but did not perform on the album. Bassist Mick Ponter and Drummer Lance Blackwood round out the rhythm section. While production values are competent in allowing for sonics of a crisp and clean sounding nature, I cannot help but think the low end could have come across heavier and the rhythm guitar beefed up in places. Still, nothing detracting here.Lyrically, Get Real can best be described as a boldly Christian effort in addressing topics ranging from TV preachers, the day of judgment and need for salvation.“King” gets underway to a bass guitar solo before a hammering guitar riff takes over the mix. The song proceeds to advance through its first and second verse in driving fashion as the person of Christ is portrayed:
After tapering off for a passage carried by pronounced spoken word delivery, “King” closes out its final thirty seconds to an instrumental section shored up by a blazing guitar solo. The hard rocking momentum is maintained on the catchy “Babylon”. Impelled at an upbeat tempo its full length by a double bass driven riff, this one proves quite the energetic number that would do Barren Cross or Sacred Warrior proud. As a matter of fact, the raw feel to the songs delivery almost brings to mind “Dead Lock” (off Barren Cross’ sophomore outing Atomic Arena) while the double bass action has Tony Velazquez (Sacred Warrior) written all over it. “For Sale” is a gritty Rez Band style hard rocker. The song proceeds through its verse portions to a heavy duty bass line as the rhythm guitar crashes in and out of the mix. Upon reaching its sharp sounding chorus, however, the rhythm guitar moves to an unwavering place in the mix. Another example of razor sharp lead work (kind of reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan) helps put “For Sale” over the top. The message here deals with TV preachers..“Under Law” begins quietly before taking off to a quickly moving guitar riff. Tapering off to a forward wall of rhythm guitar upon reaching its first verse, the song picks up in pace for a smooth sounding chorus reinforced by vocal harmonies. “Under Law” is a song of faith:“Young Man” slowly and calmly drifts ahead in a laid back manner from the start, the compelling melody imbued only serving to enhance the tranquil scene. As the song reaches its three minute mark, the rhythm guitar abruptly crashes into the mix and carries things to their close with an abundance of driving momentum. The aptly titled “Overdrive” is an aggressive piece with some guitar riffs reminiscent to Saint. The song commences to a drum solo before storming ahead to a deluge of rhythm guitar, peaking as it picks up in pace for a catchy chorus pointing to the One true Light:Some of the albums finest moments take place as “Overdrive” closes out its final two and a half minutes in instrumental fashion (plenty of tasteful lead work provided by May and Wylde). Great song.“The Day” storms out of the gate at an upbeat tempo to a swell of rollicking double bass, the dogged environment upheld for a brief but resonant chorus backed by a hammering rhythm guitar. Fast and energetic but catchy, this one brings to mind Sacred Warrior’s “Children Of Light” (off Rebellion) with its non-stop work on double bass. “The Day” is aptly named:I might describe “The Way” as boogie flavored hard rock (there is a real seventies feel here) with a blues based edge. Beginning its first minute to a guitar driven instrumental section, the song moves through its first and second verse as May’s raspy voice trades off with a gritty rhythm guitar. The fleeting chorus that follows presents a simple but straightforward message:The laid back ballad “This Child” is upheld its distance by a pleasing amalgamation of acoustic guitar and harmonica. Very nice melody and lyrical direction as well.A.N.D. saves one of its best for last with the atmospheric sounds of “Touch The Sky”. The albums longest piece at just under nine minutes, the song slowly moves through its verse portions to a gentle melding of acoustic guitar and guitar feedback. As its aesthetically pleasing chorus is procured, however, “Touch The Sky” picks up the pace as the rhythm guitar steps forward with just the right amount of edge. All the while the scene is decorated by just the right amount of technical lead guitar work. Beautiful song. Get Real proves quite the consistent effort in that all ten of its songs hold up under repeated play. Yes, there is a bit of variety here – including classic metal, hard rock and acoustic pieces – but the strength of the songwriting puts things over the top. The quality lead guitar work is another positive worth emphasizing. On the other hand, the area of lead vocals, while far from bad, might have potentially prevented the band from reaching great long term acclaim. And long term, unfortunately, proves the key word here in that following Get Real A.N.D. was never heard from again.http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/..

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUMS:
"Lifestyle from Above "Great to see Kingsway moving back into contemporary Christian music though those headbangers recognising the name and expecting some Jerusalem-style riffs (Ulf once fronted the pioneering Swedish heavy metalers) will be surprised by 'The Lifestyle From Above'. It's all very gentle pop-rock with a nice worshipful feel, hardly stunningly original, but good of its sort. " Entertainers & Soldiers " .I approached this 2003 album with a certain nervousness. The last album Ulf Christiansson cut with Jerusalem, 'Prophet', was, to my mind, one of the most powerful offerings of the whole Christian rock genre yet Ulf's last solo album, 'Mighty Wave' (a compilation of tracks from 'In My Dreams' and "Life Style From Above" plus bonus tracks), sounded to me both dated and slightly absurd with its pomp rock mannerisms. But now Sweden's veteran rocker makes a magnificent return to rock music relevancy with an edgy, bitingly astringent album of 13 powerful songs. Built on the age old theme of a life given over to utter abandonment to the lover of our souls the songs here resonate with passionate sincerity while the vortex of layered guitars Ulf builds up around these gutsy yet tender-hearted melodies is truly magnificent. A rocker who deserves to be "Up There" (wherever "there" is) with all the young turks who play "Cutting Edge Rock", This is an album which should be searched out both by Jersualem-grooving nostalgists and those who seek a prophet who (as he reminds us on his composition "Homeland") is unlikely to receive the recognition his towering talent deserves. " Mighty Wave " .Gathering together cuts from his 1981 and 1990 solo albums with five previously unreleased songs, ‘Mighty Wave’ is a sort of best of Ulf Christiansson, lead singer with Sweden’s first Christian rock group, the pioneering Jerusalem. In a country where rock and Satanism had gone hand in hand Jerusalem were at times banned and at other times lauded for their no-holds-barred apocalyptic rock. Those themes carry over in Ulf’s own work, with recurring messages of Christ’s inevitable victory and the coming judgment. Unfortunately the music itself has not aged well, and the big drum climaxes and keyboard intros are very dated, at times cringingly so. When he plugs in and rocks out on songs like “Thief In The Night”,
