David and the Giants released their first album independently in 1977. It has been reissued on CD by Giant Records.David and the Giants formed in 1969, but were not a Christian band at the time. They toured playing songs by other mainstream artists. But then in 1977 their Christianity led them to release independently their first Christian album, Song of Songs. They followed that album with four more albums released independently before Priority Records released their national debut in 1982. One interesting musical fact: Their drummer from 1979 until 1992 was Keith Thibodeaux, who played "Little Ricky" on the I Love Lucy show.for more info there are two links that I Palced Here

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM ANGELS UNAWARE:
Here's a band who've been around since the early 80s, who, despite a string of fine, melodic rock albums, have never quite gained Premier League status on the American CCM scene. The band features the many talents of the Huff family - not Dann and David (Ex-White Heart and, confusingly, Giant) but Lance, Rayborn and David, plus new Bassman Dennon Dearman. 'Angels Unaware' is much rockier than their recent efforts with a real flavour of their early Priority releases (their '83 release 'Riders In The Sky' is an absolute AOR classic, if you can find it). It really couldn't get any better than the opening quartet of songs. "Can't Stop The Music" kicks in with a dirty, Eddie DeGarmo style riff and features a chorus line that'll be sung by many thousands on the US festival circuit this summer. "Light The Fire" and "Somebody Tell Me" sound very much like Dann Huff's Giant, with David Huff spitting fire from his fretboard, whilst "Writing On The Wall" is a huge slab of AOR genius that would not sound out of place on any White Heart album. I'm not too convinced with the slushy "No One But You" but the album's other ballad "Inside My Heart" works perfectly as do the soothing acoustic tones of "I Was Made For You" before the rapid fire "The Beat Goes On" takes us on a magical journey back into the early '80s, complete with swirling Hammond Organ solo! A great album that fans of White Heart, Petra and Nouveaux should enjoy immenselyFirst the facts for those who fancy a game of CCM Trivial Pursuits. David, Rayborn and Clayborn Huff are brothers and make up this team together with David's son, drummer Lance. David And The Giants record for the family-owned Giant Records. Mind-bogglingly there are no blood ties between David And The Giants and Dann and David Huff, both ex-members of White Heart who now front the tasty 'secular' rock team Giant. If you can unrap your brains from that lot, what can I say about this veteran team of rockers who've made close to a dozen albums, have been popular stalwarts of the American rock gospel scene yet who've never impressed this particular reviewer? Well, I'm happy to report this is their best ever album, a satisfying blend of AOR, southern boogie with (on the fiery opener) a touch of metal. David is an excellent, bluesy singer, the guitar work bites deep and the songs, like the haunting anthemic "Let Go Let God" and the mid tempo Time On My Side" have insistent hooks. The more I play 'Distant Journey' the better it sounds.,.

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM R U GONNA STAND UP:
This Album on the other hand I have found that it creates competition when buying more. David and the Giants (Giantworld.com) and Petra/John Schlitt are the only bands I have found that guarantee to capture the 70's -80's Arena Rock sound while praising the allmighty in the process. Most bands veil the lyrics so you wonder what they are singing about - no mistake here. Or bands have a lot of songs that don't "have it all happening" If it says David and the Giants or Petra/John Schlitt on the jacket ,David and the Giants is older stuff/no longer together but it is the best of the best caliber. E-bay proves they are good/desired, I usually lose the bidding - Goes For "New" Prices. The Guitar Work of Huff is legendary. If I ever hear an album that is good first to last (such as Margaret Becker Grace)or a real good song I suspect.

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM STRANGER TO THE NIGHT:
This album at the time was I believe the breakthrough recording of the band. All their albums are great, but "Strangers to the night" had that perfect sound. Every song is masterfully written with the best in my opinion being "Restless" and "Show them the light". This is the 80's album that expresses the essential Christian lifestyle of devotion to the Lord Jesus. The band are artful musicians that play for the honor and glory of God. You will not be disappointed.

GENERAL REVIEW:
The one song I knew I knew was "Here's My Heart." It's just as good as I remembered. While the song ultimately is about surrender, I like the fact that it emphasizes that God is truly worthy of our surrender. I also knew I liked "Why" by Keith Thibodeaux. This song ponders the changes in his life after becoming a Christian and asks why he didn't come to God sooner. It's a topic that people don't sing about very often, and I like hearing it. There are a couple songs about living the Christian life ("Get Together" and "Show Them the Light"). "Heavenly Love" and "Love has a Place" are about God's love. Our commitment to love Him back is the subject of "I'll be Loving You" and "Always on My Mind." "I was the Nails" puts the singer in the place of various things around Jesus on Good Friday. While the verses wish he could have been something that could have offered comfort, the chorus admits that, thanks to sin, he is really the nails that caused the pain. While the idea is often expressed in song, it's never quite this clear. And the CD rounds out with "Noah," a fun song written from the perspective of those laughing as Noah built the ark. David & the Giants was most popular during the 80's, and this CD shows it. The music feels like typical soft rock of the era from the heavy keyboard to the lead singer's voice. But if you enjoy that, you should enjoy the CD(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)
