LIAISON A pressing void in the human heart that demands immediate attention." These were the words written inside the album cover by band leaders/brothers Tim and Lary Melby. It sets the theme of the album performed by this six-piece Californian outfit. The album begins with the title track, and after a neat vocal intro the power chords set in amongst an excellent bass line which really controls the song. I found this the most impressive track on the album. The rest of the album would probably be appreciated more by a contemporary audience than a rock one. Although the band do retain their own sound the ballads, due to the number of them, do get a bit tiring. "The Hardest Part's The Waiting" though has some nice dean guitar work and an extremely mellow sound. The lyrical content is good in places but rather typical of a Christian band in others: "He gave us free will' or "You can hear him if you listen' etc. Ocean View paints a nice picture of God. Overall I think that while a few of the songs show promise this album is essentially standard AOR. .

Released in 1989, Urgency was the second album from Christian AOR group Liaison. Formed by brothers Larry and Tim Melby, Liaison played pop-oriented AOR similar to Toto, REO Speedwagon, and fellow Christian rockers Petra and Fighter. Urgency is the kind of album you'd only find in the late 80's /early 90's. It's a very keyboard heavy AOR album, and while there are a couple of harder rocking tracks (Listen Up for example), the album has a lighter, more radio friendly feel. The band is obviously Christian, but their message is presented tactfully enough that non-Christians can also enjoy the music. Overall, Urgency is a solid AOR album that should appeal to most fans of the genre. NOTE: Urgency was reissued as part of a 2-on-1 package that also included the band's 1989 self-titled debut. If you're interested in checking out Liaison, that release is a better value for your money. One more thing: You know the old saying "never judge a book by its cover"? That doesn't apply here. One look at the spectacular mullets the Melby brothers are sporting on Urgency's cover and you know exactly what kind of music you're going to get.

Anyway.LIAISON is a Christian AOR band formed by brothers Larry and Tim Melby. Dann Huff of GIANT fame supplied additional guitar work to the Bill Baumgert produced 1989 debut. TOTO drummer Jeff Porcaro also contributes as does renowned session guitarist MICHAEL LANDAU. For the 1990 'Urgency' album LIAISON used the services of guitarist Glen Pierce and drummer Doug Matthews. This new duo were both out of the picture by the time of the 1992 'Hard Hitter' record, their places filled by bassist Kelly Burns and drummer Tim Jones. Guests were in evidence in the form of HOUSE OF LORDS guitarist Lanny Cordola, STRYPER guitarist Oz Fox and DAVID LEE ROTH band drummer Gregg Bissonette.Remember Diason? Two brothers Larry and Tim Melby who made a couple of goodish heavy rock/AOR albums through Word here before disappearing from high profile CCM attention. Well, they're still around and rocking and this 1995 album shows they've lost none of their grit. The opener Two Tracks" I'Am Really"Glad I'm Here" cranks up a fearsome riff reminding me slightly of early White Heart while the ballad "Do What Is Good" has an attractive lilting production. Classy AOR which our American cousins make so well(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)

Loved Liason! Was a youth pastor for quite a few years and took teens to concerts often, but never heard them live. The group was much better than a LOT of bands who were more popular, probably because of the Christian label. The guest musicians also include Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro and Magdelen/Tamplin guitar hero Lanny Cordola as well as former White Heart/Giant guitarist Dann Huff who has produced and done session work for dozens of groups. A real shame they did not become more popular but musicians must make music and they are probably pleased with their work.

Absolutely loved their first album. The second one was pretty decent too, but I never felt it reached the level of the first one. Some of the songs just weren't the same quality as the first album. Not sure what happened to these guys after that. They really seemed to change their style. Got heavier, but lost the quality. The sax really added a great vibe to their tunes on the first album. I remember hardly being able to wait for album two, and was quite pleased when the song Urgency came on. Felt I was in for a treat. After that the album went downhill for me, with a few other catchy tunes. I felt these guys had a lot more to offer. Wish they would have stuck around longer and made more of that cool melodic tunes like they did at the start.
