About this band there's so much things to say, let's start commenting about the first Album. As the name and title would suggest, this is another newcomer off the seemingly endless conveyor belt of highly talented CCM melodic rock bands. A five piece based in Nashville (where else?), Nouveaux have delivered an absolute stormer which totally belies it's debut status. Right from the opening bars of the Def Leppard inspired "We Believe", it's obvious this is going to be a bit special. More hooks than a fisherman's basket, catchier than measles, every song an AOR fan's dream. Bon Jovi would kill for a song half as good as the epic "Bridge Across The Water", whilst the slightly funkier edge to "Red, White, Black And Blue" has more of a Rhythm House feel. They show a heavier side on "All That Glitters"; "Hurt So Bad" is Idle Cure-style balladry and "A Time To Cry" comes over all White Heart, circa Tales Of Wonder'. All this is mere build up to the album closer "Across The Miles", a pure AOR classic, complete with Neal Schon (Journey) style lead guitar work - six minutes of sheer bliss. Great songs, superbly performed, all blended together with a top notch production job, courtesy of Doug Beiden. If you like your rock punchy, yet with tons of melody, makes sure this is at the top of your shopping list. Look, I'm out of superlatives here, so to sum up - WOW!!!
If your resistant to the influence of modern fashions of musical preference, and you like good Christian music, then you'll love this album! There is a lot of bad music out there,But this album, completely under-rated as it is, blew me away. The sound is very much a Bon jovi/winger/def leppard style of music, especially def lepod with the excessive amount of background vocals. But that didn't ruin the CD at all. The main vocals are exceptionally powerful and very moving in some of the songs such as accros the miles, about a friendship that ended but how he still thinks about her after all these years, cheesy but great. The guitar work is amazing, each song different, some a lot heavier than others, along with a much needed accompinment of a piano in some of the slower songs. The songs are relevent and encouraging, a lot of them emphasising Gods power, and how difficult life can be sometimes. Some of the songs sometimes sound like they don't quite fit together, but it works either way. This album is full of passion and power and is a must have if your a hair metal fan, Christian or not.of course Nouveaux shook CCM with their first release, Beginnings, with a sound that melded Def Leppard with Richard Marx, but with uplifting lyrics! CCM hadn't heard anything like it before and we loved it! The band reinvented itself into an acoustic rock band on its 2nd album, and things haven't been the same since. The irony is, this, their debut album, was by far their best. For fans of CCM (and Def Leppard), this is one comes highly recommended.
And What About Thier Follow Album(NOUVEAUX-Ans this is How I Feel)After a few plays this album kicks into life and is another hook-ridden album. The band's sound is focused around layers of rich harmony and nearly all the songs are driven by the acoustic guitar. This is The Rembrants/lighter side of Extreme territory. Worthy of a mention is the production team of John and Dino Elefante, who also lend a hand on the songwriting front. But the self-penned "Simply Beautiful" is a song deserving much radio play and will have you swaying in your seat and crying out for more. Overall, the lyrics don't strike immediately, but they all draw your focus towards God, particularly through the ballads "Your Breath" and "If Only". Rarely, though, does music move me to tears, but the compassion of God is so beautifully put in "I'll Cry Too" -"For every tear that you cry/I promise that I'll cry too" - that this really hit me. Why not investigate?Shimmery acoustic guitars and melt-in-the-mouth harmonies are the hallmarks of this, Nouveaux's second (and unfortunately, last) album. Starting off with "Maybe Tomorrow," an innocent ode to a future love, the disc highlights Paul Alan's limited, but
passionate lead vocals. At times, the harmonies and generally tuneful songwriting recall PFR, but the group definitely finds its own sound and niche within the Christian Rock genre. The crystal clear production from John and Dino Elefante, while sometimes a bit bland and processed-sounding, suits their acoustic-guitar-based creations well. On songs like "You Breathe," Alan even begins to sound a bit like John Elefante, while "Simply Beautiful" and "Never See the Day" recall power-popsters like the Posies and the Rembrandts. Altogether, "...and this is how I feel" is a very enjoyable and affecting work. The boys definitely knew what they were doing, and one can only hope that Paul Alan's recent solo debut will continue to shine a light for Christ as brightly as this album does almost 6 years after its release.
Then Alan Paul. The former frontman of Nouveaux, Alan is no stranger to the Christian music world...While Alan’s Falling Awake is not totally Nouveaux-like material, his smooth, soaring tenor is more than worth the price of admission on Falling Awake, his first solo effort.I must warn you that Paul Alan’s music is the epitome of “pop/rock.” I must also warn you that you will like it…a lot...Falling Awake succeeds because it pulls off the Christian pop/rock style without presenting it in a vacuuum-packaged, cheese-ified, “Christianity in a box” approach that has become typical in an arena of artists, eager to tell Whose they are, but afraid to admit who they are.Overall, Falling Awake succeeds because it pulls off the Christian pop/rock style without presenting it in a vacuum-packaged, cheese-ified, “Christianity in a box” approach that has become typical in an arena of artists, eager to tell Whose they are, but afraid to admit who they are.And Even IF Though This is a rare album. Rare in two different ways. Rare because you probably won't find it very easily if you ever want to pick up a copy, and secondly, it is one of the most incredible and creative pop/rock albums I've ever heard. And for pop music, "incredible" and "creative" in the same sentence is quite rare. Paul Alan has crafted sincere lyrics, passionate vocals and crazy catchy melodies that are much more rewarding than most of current radio. Honestly, this is one of those albums which will have you singing with every song. That is, if you enjoy singing along to music. A great CD for cruising the highway. Its a pop record with intelligence and thoughtful storytelling(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)
