GUARDIAN BIOGRAPHY:The band was founded in 1982 under the name Fusion, by bassist David Bach and singer Paul Cawley. They added drummer Rikk Hart and guitarist James Isham shortly after. The band played a futuristic style of rock, even sporting bod armour when they played. In 1984, they recorded a six song EP called Rock In Victory. Some time later, they replaced Isham with David Caro. Caro arrived just in time for one of the first shifts in the band's trajectory. The band managed to strike a record deal with Enigma Records in 1985. When they found out there was a band going by the same name, they changed theirs to Gardian (with no "U"). According to Bach, the "U" was omitted“to keep the spelling at 7 letters in line with the playful Stryper numerology of the day The band played the SunsetStrip relentlessly “being both laughed at, as well as marvelled at, for wearing full body armor on stage at the Whisky-A-Go-Go”according to Bach. Still, they managed to release another EP called Voyager in 1987.Some time later, Caro left due to personal issues and was replaced with Tony Palacios. David Caro currently plays guitar at his church in Hesperia, CA. The band added the "U" to their name and in 1989 released their first album called First Watch, produced by Stryper's Oz Fox. This release featured a melodic metal sound in the same veign as Stryper or Van Halen and was followed by extensive touring through the United States and Japan. When the tour finished in 1990, Cawley and Hart were unable to handle the stresses of touring and left the band. The New Guardian Bach and Palacios asked to be freed of their Enigma contract, requesting a more Christian label. After they were released, singer Jamie Rowe and drummer Karl Ney joined the band. They started working with new producers Dino and John Elefante on their second album, finally releasing Fire and Love in 1991 under the Pakaderm label. The response to the album was overwhelming and one of the videos was included in the MTV's Headbangers Ballrotation. After touring with Stryper in 1992,[1 the band released their third album, Miracle Mile in 1993. The album was a departure from their first two releases as the band began to integrate Rhythm and Blues elements into their music. The album quickly rose the charts, and reached the CCM Top Five. After a new deal with Myrrh Records, they followed with an experimental acoustic album Swing, Swang, Swung in 1994. The album was recorded in producer's (John & Dino Elefante) garage and featured a stripped down, blues based sound. Also, the band's first Spanish album Nunca Te Dire AdiĆ³s was released in 1995 rising the band's popularity in Latin America. The band then switched to producer Steve Taylor. Under his direction they returned to a harder sound, adjusting to new trends in the genre, and released Buzz in 1995.They supported the release with yet another tour. In 1997, the band released Bottle Rocket and their second Spanish album, Promesa. These are the last original albums to date to feature all current members. With growing shifts in the rock genre, the band decided to take some time off and dedicate to other personal projects. During this time, the band released a self-produced tribute to Strype called The Yellow and Black Attack Is Back!!. The album is a direct remake of Stryper's album of the same name. In 2001, the band members (sans Bach) released their third Spanish album called Dime. It featured nine songs written in Spanish exclusively for this album and one in English. Bach was not able to take part due to time constraints. In the summer of 2001, Guardian joined other legendary Christian hard rock bands (including Bride) on the HM Stage at the Cornerstone Music Festival near Bushnell, IL. The show was intended to be a tribute to the Christian metal heyday of the 80s and early 90s, however Guardian made the show a reunion of sorts and performed songs spanning their entire catalog. In 2004, it was announced that the band will start to tour again in 2005, and will probably record a new album in the near future. In December of 2005, the band recorded an updated remake of their signature ballad "Never Say Goodbye" with producer Phil Madeira. In April of 2006, producer Dino Elefante told Jesus Freak Hideout that Guardian would release Triple Five, a compilation with a couple new songs on the Selectric Records imprint. More recently, Jamie Rowe said that there may be a complete CD of all new material rather than Triple Five. However, these plans have been put on hold as time restraints make it difficult for the band to get together. In October of 2006, Guardian made a rare live appearance at the ARPA Awards in Mexico City where they performed a medley of some of their Spanish hits.In February of 2007, Guardian joined fellow Christian-metal veterans, Bride and Tourniquet onstage in Germany at the Legends of Rock festival.Post-Guardian After the band went on semi-hiatus in the late 90s, bassist David Bach served as VP of A&R for 5 years with EMI's ForeFront Records. He also served in the same capacity for Sony/BMG-owned Reunion Records before reuniting with veteran producers John and Dino Elefante in a production company called 3.1 Productions. Guitarist Tony Palacios mixes and produces records for a diverse blend of CCM acts. Karl Ney is owner of The Bennett Company, an Artist and Business Management Firm which represents international CCM and mainstream recording artists. His latest act to partner with is a new band out of Boise, ID called A Rotterdam November. Jamie Rowe remains active as a solo artist as well as lead singer for power pop band The Ruled. He also works as a part time youth minister while running a successful viral marketing business. The Christian rockers, best known for such hits as "Power of Love" and "Shoeshine Johnny," have forged their way into the '90s with modern gospel metal.Guardian was originally known as "Fusion" by its founders, bassist David Bach and vocalist Paul Cawley. Along with drummer Rikk Hart and guitarist David Caro, the band played at local gigs throughout the early '80s before finally obtaining a record deal from the Enigma label in 1985. When they found that there was already a band of the same name, they changed to Guardian and added guitarist Tony Palacios to replace Caro. Their album First Watch was released in 1989 and was followed by extensive touring. When the band finished their tour in Japan, both Cawley and Hart left in 1990 after being unable to handle the stresses of touring. Bach and Palacios asked to be freed of their Enigma contract, requesting a more Christian label. They would be released later that year, and vocalist Jamie Rowe and drummer Karl Ney would be added around that same time. The new lineup began to record, finally releasing their first album on their new Pakaderm label, Fire and Love, in 1991. The response to the album was overwhelming, and the video filmed for their hit "Power of Love" was added to MTV's Headbangers Ball. After a more successful tour, Miracle Mile was released in early 1993, and the album reached the CCM Top Five. Miracle Mile was quickly followed by Swing Swang Swung in 1994, the band's experiment with acoustic music. By 1995, they had finally accepted the modern '90s mainstream rock that had become such a strong fad, and in a new agreement with Myrrh Records, they released Buzz that fall. After another tour and a Spanish disc recording, Guardian released Bottlerocket, their fifth studio album, in the spring of 1997.http://robertigno.webs.com/

REVIEWS FOR THE ALBUMS:Guardian is one of many bands which never struck fame. They're perhaps a diamond in the rough as their album "Fire & Love" is one of the absolute best heavy metal albums ever produced. Every single track is hard hitting and delivers great metal sound from the vocals courtesy of one of the best in the biz Jamie Rowe, the guitar riffs, bass lines, drum work, everything flows perfectly. The harmony in the backing vocals is superb. I would have to say this album ranks up there with the hardest rocking best. No matter whether you're into Christian metal such as Stryper or Petra or you stick with the mainstream, this is a hard rocking metal album you definately need to hear and own! This is Guardian's first album featuring Jamie Rowe in the vocals. The first Guardian album, "First Watch" was a very mellow metal album. "Fire and Love" is a very mature and bold rock album. No other album was to be surpassed in the honesty of their lyrics. "Time stands still", "Forever and a day", "Never gonna say good-bye" and other lyrics kept me on my feet when I was feeling down. Later Guardian albums are really good as well, but they slowly faded into fuzzy lyrics and more emphasis on music than message. This is their best album by far, with Spirit-Inspired, powerful lyrics. As much as I loved "hair metal" growing up, I somehow missed Guardian the first time around, discovering them a few years ago when I ran across a used copy of their 1992 album Miracle Mile. That was such an impressive album that I've been actively hunting down the band's other releases, including this one - 1990's Fire and Love. is an incredible melodic rock album, and is one of those releases that managed to go beyond the "hair metal" label. In terms of overall sound and quality level, Fire and Love was similar to what bands like Lillian Axe, Tesla, and Mr. Big were releasing at the time. The melodies are great, the guitar work is incredible, and the vocals really steal the show. Fire and Love was the first album to feature Jamie Rowe on vocals, and does he ever make a great first impression! His energy and spirit are evident in his powerful performance, which really sets Fire and Love apart from the pack. The presence of John Elefante (Kansas) on keys and backing vocals is another plus. As far as the band's lyrical content goes, it's no secret that Guardian is a Christian band. Still, the lyrics are general enough that they shouldn't alienate any non-Christian listeners. You can interpret these songs however you choose and they remain just as emotional and powerful. Fire and Love is just a fantastic melodic rock album that should appeal to just about anyone who enjoys this kind of music, regardless of your faith (or lack thereof) On 1992 follow-up Miracle Mile is so much better. "Miracle Mile" is an astonishing album. It grabs you from the get-go and doesn't look back. Reminiscent of the late 80s early 90s hard rock that defined radio and television, Guardian took this style and made it their own with Jamie Rowe's impressive vocals (outshining IMO the best of the mainstream vocalists like Axl and Bon Jovi) and Tony Palacios' killer guitar playing. Many many bands will stop right here, but Guardian has one of the best Bassists and Drummers in the industry, completing the band with only 4. If you're looking to rock out, highlight tracks are "Shoeshine Johnny", "Let It Roll", "Mr. Do Wrong", "Sister Wisdom", "Curiosity Killed the Cat", and "You & I". For the softer side of the band, they have some amazing ballads. "I Found Love", "Sweet Mystery", "The Captain", and "Do You Know What Love Is?" are so spectacular, you'll be leaving all your other ballad-laden albums in their cases. And rightfully so! You may call me a Guardian fanatic, but I just like good music. I find a reoccuring problem with many fans of a certain band is a lack of variety in their music. I've read many old school rockers ripping on Guardian's newer albums because it doesn't have that arena hard rock sound like they want. Of course, I love the old stuff as well as the new, but to get an idea of where I'm coming from, another one of my favorite bands is Radiohead...a polar opposite of anything Guardian's done (although RH's "The Bends" is listed as a favorite of vocalist Jamie Rowe's albums). As far as rock music goes, I love anything from Jackson Browne, Zeppelin, and Floyd to Radiohead, Plankeye, Bride, Starflyer 59, Wilco, Jim Brickman, Delirious, and Travis. And with that said, Guardian's "Miracle Mile" leaves any other album in the dust, IMO...save Radiohead's "OK Computer" (I really can't decide which I like better). Enough of that. Get this album. Then get "Fire & Love". Then get "Swing, Swang, Swung". Then open your mind for a new style and get the darker "Buzz" and the alternative sounding "Bottle Rocket". Eat, breath, and sleep Guardian. All your base are belong to us.http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM BUZZ AND BOTTLE ROCKET:I've been in the christian music scene for awhile now and these guys are defenitly one of the best.I have a christian album collection (and all of guardians cds) and there all awesome. If anyone from the band ever reads this i'd love to talk to you via the interent. later and God speed.Absolutely incredible album from these guys. After the "unplugged" sound of "Swing..." I thought we might have lost them, but they came back in spades here. "Hand of the Father" is an incredible song...well, actually, almost ALL of them are. You won't be disappointed!..All joking aside, this really is a terrific collection of songs. As you listen through this CD, you can feel Guardian pulling away from its pop-metal sound and venturing into a harder alternative genre. However, there is plenty enough edge here to satisfy most intense hard-rock fans. Once again, the guitar work of Tony Palacios leads the band from one great song to the next. Tony probably is humble enough not to make a noise about himself, but he could shred with the best (Joe Satriani (sp?), Steve Vai, etc.). The rhythm section of David Bach and Karl Ney remains solid. You will never complain about the bass guitar work nor the drumming. Of course, Jamie Rowe's talented vocals simply helps glue all of it together to make Guardian one of the best kept secrets (why a secret!) in rock-n-roll. Using Steve Taylor as the producer is a stroke of genius. He is a gifted humorist (check out the lyrics where he contributed) and a dynamite producer. All 13 songs are gems, but the ones I like the most include: "Lead The Way"; "The Lions Den"; "One Thing Left To Do"; "Even It Out"; and "Lift Me Up". Christ-centered themes and lyrics are throughout the CD. Some songs are more overtly Godly than others, but the lyrics guide the listener through the goodness of being under God's will or through the despair of traveling in darker circles ("Psychedelic Runaway" for example)So If you thought "Buzz" was good - check out "Bottle Rocket." It's different but, oh, so good! David Bach's Bass keeps the undercurrent going while Tony Palacios's Guitar riffs continue to highlight why he's a continual favorite in hm magazine's Guitarist of the Year. Jamie Rowe's vocals are rougher and grungier than the older albums but in the same vein as "Buzz." Karl Ney keep the beat on drums as always but is, as usual, exceptional. The production on the album is sooooo good - hats off to Steve Taylor, who continues to prove himself as not just a producer BUT one of the best. The title cut "Bottle Rocket" reminds me that "this little light of mine - I'm going to let it shine" can't even capture the blaze of what really burns in the hearts of believers everywhere. Sample; you'll come back for more Guardian. After being a pop-metal outfit in the early 90's, the changing music scene encouraged Guardian to try some different things stylistically. "Swing, Swang, Swung" was more acoustically based, but "Buzz" brought the boys back to their hard-rock roots. As different as "Swing, Swang, Swung" was from "Miracle Mile" and as "Buzz" was from "Swing, Swang, Swung", so is "Bottle Rocket" different everything else Guardian has done. The focus centers on a more modern rock sound, complete with Bass and Guitar Effects, that works very well. The lead-off track, "Are We Feeling Comfortable Yet?" exhibits the new sound with some interesting Guitar-Synth sounds and David Bach's Bass, also mixed in with some Synthesizer, setting the foreshadowing of a rock explosion. The ever present lead-guitar of Tony Palacios blazes into his patented playing while Karl Ney lays down a strong pace on his Drum kit. Jamie Rowe demonstrates he can sing well outside the reigns of heavy metal. Without critiqueing all 14 songs, suffice it to say that the recording demonstrates the desired tightness of a well rehearsed band. The lyrics showcase Steve Taylor's creative genius with the American vernacular, and the theme of the CD points to God and salvation through Jesus Christ. Some songs may seem silly ("Bottle Rocket" & "Coffee Can"), but pay attention to the message in the humor. Sarcasm and wit can be excellent vehicles for carrying the message to the listener(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)
