The Brave - Battle Cries is in the top 5 best metal/AOR Christian Metal bands ever!! The musicianship, songs, hooks & vocals are better than most secular releases of the late 80's early 90's. Produced by John & Dino Elefante (Kansas & St. Elmo's Fire Soundtrack) they knew how to get the best bands & get the best out of their musicians. If you do not have this cd get it now, it is long out of print & getting harder to findIf you like great music from the eighties with a Christian flavor you won't be disappointed with this CD. It's a keeper!Set somewhere between out-and-out metal and AOR, this is a pretty impressive debut despite a cover pic that's straight out of Spinal Tap. Once you've got "All Together Now", the opening track of this set, out of the way you discover a band who have an identity all of their own. This really comes alive three tracks in on "If That Ain't Love" - a typical heavy stomper if ever I heard one, a kind of anthem for the band. From thereon in they show an enthusiasm for Great Guitar work and highly distinguishable lyrics (uncommon for 85 percent of heavies) which is both gratifying and hugely rewarding in the context of their work. "Running All My Life" AND "Tomorrow" is controlled play of the highest heavy order and "Tears Of A Broken Heart" is their finest moment. Despite the cover it's worth giving these guys a listen,Nobody produces this kind of melodic metal better than Dino and John Elefante. Those who don't care for the genre will find Trust' hopelessly stylised but within the well-trodden parameters of the form The Brave are pretty hot. Lead singer Randy Roberts has a raspingly expressive voice, Stayce Roberts and Freddie Tierra lay down a satisfyingly dense set of guitar parts and bassist Stevie Irwin offers some unexpected twists to the standard bass runs. Lyrics range from the mundane ("Following You") to the imaginative ("Dirty Water") and, when on the closer, there's a momentary move away from the power chords on the acoustic-picked title track the band show themselves to be far from poodle head slouches(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)
