Cruse began ministering at the age of six alongside her family, The Cruse Family, a well-known evangelistic musical group. The group, popular throughout much of the 1970s and early 1980s, traveled and ministered all across the world. They released 25 albums and received two Dove Awards. While Cruse said she always had a heart for music ministry, she would not become involved with worship music herself until later in life.At the age of nine, she became the youngest licensed ASCAP songwriter. Since that time, she has written for and produced more than 100 album recordings. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Cruse recorded two Christian album-oriented rock /melodic rock albums entitled "The Edge" and "Small Town Girl." Fellow Christian Contemporary Music artist and former
husband Tim Miner served as executive producer for "Small Town Girl." Cruse has since remarried. From 1997 to 1998, she traveled with Revival Ministries International leading worship for evangelistic crusades in the United States and abroad. In late 1998, she moved to Covenant Church in Carrollton, Texas , serving as one of three worship leaders. In January 2000, she received a phone call from Lakewood Church Pastor Joel Osteen, who offered her the opportunity to become the church's worship director. She was Osteen's first hire when he became the new pastor of Lakewood, While Cruse said she and her husband did not initially feel drawn to the church, they quickly fell in love with the people and moved to Houston.Nearly nine months after her arrival, Lakewood added an additional service on Saturday nights to keep up with the church's rapid growth.Today, Cruse leads weekend worship services at Lakewood Church alongside Steve Crawford and Da'dra Crawford Greathouse, former members of the Contemporary Christian music duo Anointed. They are also frequently joined by Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Israel Houghton, who also serves as one of the church's worship leaders. In early 2008, her position in the church has changed from director of music and worship to the senior worship leader. In June 2008, Cruse announced she would release her first solo album in more than a decade sometime later in the year.Anyway.I'm totally confused, pleasantly so, but confused nonetheless. Picture the scene: a study of the cover indicated I was in for a "redeemed" combination of Judie Tzuke and Stevie Nicks - angels, not fairies, at the bottom of the garden? So I switched into Kate Bush mode and waited. Ten seconds later I feel like Norm from 'Cheers" in the latest Jackson video (is that weird or what?), blown out of my house by some maniac on stun guitar - Jennifer Batten to be precise, the player on the 'Bad' tour - who rips into the riff of "Written In Red" like some crazed piranha and who's now chasing me around the garden firing off a barrage of notes subtly called "Say What You Mean". "Colour Blind" allows a brief respite then we're off again for a gallop around "Wonderland" and "Way Over Your Head". (Put my tea in the oven, mother, I'll be back in a minute!) Seriously though, once you're over the initial shock you'll find an album stuffed full of American hard rock given a little funk twist, courtesy of Tim Miner's production - check out "Luke 17:2" for a typical Miner. Cindy, whom CCM buffs will tell you once fronted popular pop-gospel team Cruse, has a voice that isn't brilliant, but then neither is it mediocre and she tackles her lyrical subjects with weight and thought - sorry, got to run as that guitarist's back again, playing "I Wouldn't Trade It". Back to the garden again! MORAL: never judge a CD by its cover. One of the best female AOR cds out there! For fans of Heart,Fiona,Tone Norum..Hyper rare cd! Worth picking up for any price!!
