Rex Carroll was the guitarist for Whitecross as well as King James with Robert Sweet and Tim Gaines of Stryper. Rex was also in The Bleed, Fierce Heart, Eden as well as has played on many other project. You will truely be learning from one of the masters of the Guitar. I last encountered this ex-Whitecross man's technical finger work and electric rocking guitar chords on his 1994 album project 'King James'. The Rex Carrol Sessions', however, are very different and certainly not what I was expecting. After the initial shock (and once I gave myself the chance to relax and listen to what he was doing) I began to 'enjoy' what I heard. Rex has obviously really relished the freedom given to him on this album, being able to indulge and explore a little more than usual. There are some great harmonizing between the vocalists. The guitar playing is up to his usual high standard, and the lyrics centre very strongly on God. Although a little too structured and eclectic for true blues purists, there's much to intrigue here. We can catch a glimpse of some of the musical styles he has enjoyed and grown up with over the years. Everything from Detroit R&B, Chicago blues, swing and shuffle from Texas and Cajun rhythm from New Orleans. These have so clearly stamped their influence on this album to create something definitely of himself, and definitely something to enjoy.

About Scott Wenzel:
Scott Wenzel, testing the waters as a solo artist whilst the future of US CCM metal outfit Whitecross is put on ice, breaks no new ground with 'Heart Like Thunder'. Plodding along at a pedestrian pace, apart from a few punchy riffs from Billy Heller's guitar, Scott seems to have plumped for a safe, ballad-based, melodic rock sound. Yet, in my opinion, Scott's fiery voice just does not suit this type of material. Instead he sounds far more at home barking along to "One God, One Love" - the one full tilt rocker on this otherwise restrained recording. It's not all bad news though. Scott's heartfelt lyrics are, at times, refreshing in their simplicity, whilst "One God, One Love" and "You Gave Everything" (the final ballad, in which Scott's voice suddenly mellows!) are decent tracks. Maybe Scott should take a leaf out of Glenn Kaiser's, or even our own Sammy Homer's, book by adapting his musical direction rather than just softening it when entering the solo arena in order to offer something fresh and original,A lot of heavy metal buffs were seriously disappointed by Scott's debut solo album 'Heart Like Thunder' after his halcyon days with heavy metal pioneers Whitecross. I don't suppose this set either will make the cries of "wimp-out" die down. For Scott pursues the same path of hooky pop-rock. At times the effect is thoroughly engaging, for instance the opening "That's Not Enough" has a great hook. On other occasions the weakness of Scott's material recalls Mark Farner on a bad day. He needs a producer to sift out the weaker songs. In the meantime any fans he has left had better pick out the good cuts here. The former vocalist with Christian Metal band WHITECROSS. Returning from missionary work in Paraguay Scott Wenzel cut a album 'Heart Like Thunder' in 1993. The first album found the man working more towards a Melodic Rock direction than the Metal delivered by WHITECROSS previously. For the 'Heart Like Thunder' opus Wenzel assembled a band unit incorporating guitarist Billy Heller, bass player Mark Robertson, keyboard player Mark Pence and drummer Doug Day. The 1995 album 'Film At Eleven' included re-worked versions of the WHITECROSS songs 'Home In Heaven' and 'You're Mine'.and "HEART LIKE THUNDER".As a huge fan of Whitecross in the 80's I was sad to see Scott Wenzel go solo. Rex Carroll (Whitecross guitarist) wanted to go in a different musical direction so he left. But to my surprise this CD really impressed me. It is different from Whitecross in that is is more like Night Ranger, Survivor & journey than Ratt. Believe me this cd has no fillers. It is the album that Scott Wenzel wanted to make. Every song is a highlight but my favorites are: Heart On Fire, Sarah, Are You Faithful & You Gave Everything (which is the perfect ending to this cd). Do not miss this cd it is awesome!!The Second solo project from lead vocalist of Whitecross Guest appearances by Jamie Rowe & Tony Palacios of Guardian Another legendary album produced by Caesar 4 pannel insert with credits and lyrics to all songs.
