J.A.G-And John Allen Garies Vocalist (hence their name) as one of the best CCM bands in the States. This new set keeps up the standard. Fine AOR arrangements, lyrics which speak insight and truth into a fallen world. My current favourite is "1000 Words" ("Sometimes we're eager, we're walking in circles round and round/Try to say something about the injustice we have found/All this won't matter, if there's love in our hearts."). John's voice is wheezingly distinctive in the bluesy tradition of great Texas rock singers and this is an album you'll keep returning to.J.A.G. was a Christian rock band that recorded during the early 1990s. The band's name is an acronym for the band's founder and lead singer, John Allen Garies. JAG's original lineup for their 1990 debut,(The Longest Road) included guitarist J. Paul Brittain, bassist Joel McCreight, drummer Chuck Connor, and Garies on lead vocals.Their 1991 follow up(The Only World In Town) traded McCreight for Michael Lush and featured additional help from drummer Chris McHugh and guitarists, Jim Williams, Dale Oliver (originally of Geoff Moore's band) and Giant's Dan Huff. Produced by CCM session keyboardist Blair Masters, JAG's final album,(Fire in the Temple), featured songs written by Garies, and the likes of Billy Smiley and Mark Gersmehl and performed by players Gordon Kennedy, Chris McHugh and Tommy Sims, all of whom were current or former members of the group Whiteheart.*On a side note...the bands founder and lead vocalist, Johnny Garies died on 8-4-2007 from complications of liver disease. He was 54 years old,About The Album (The Longest Road) (many months after release it has to be said) yet too late to save if from a miserable UK sale. Now it seems our enthusiasm has persuaded Word (UK) that they should give the band a second chance and release The Only World In Town' here. CR are going to continue to do their part, expect a Jag feature in the future. Jag is a near perfect blend of contemporary rock elements, a four piece who bring the power chords, eery synths and edgy vocals and stir them into a brew which comes up tasting like new wine. Focal point is lead vocalist/songwriter John 'Jag' Garland who writes the most literate CCM songs you've heard for many a day. My recommendations are the opener with a muscular mid tempo singalong "Hands Up In The Air" and the epic, building "Sense Of Wonder". Thought provoking Christian rock, definitely not to be overlooked. And What About The Album( The Longest Road)This is a classy debut album from a bunch of rockers from Carolina. More of a Gulf GTI than a Jag but a smooth classy ride none the less. If strong understated melodic rock is your bug, this is a must. The singer, Jag's, voice is a joy on the line of a rehabilitated Joe Cocker. When supported by intelligent production from Billy Smiley, the sound is ethereal and haunting. The songs creep into your consciousness and carry you along with them (they are managed by Steady Wind - no missus please!) The lyrics of the songs are pretty standard fare but seem to fit in well with the genre. When hooked up to a good stereo, the words seem perfectly logical and well crafted, the sign of good writing. The sorts of soundscape painted here by the song's swirling synthesisers, make this a great album to relax to late at night. If the next album is as good as this, auto John from all sorts of quarters will be hitting poor Jag. Still, I'm sure he'll ride them out and hopefully find success with the band. File under "Rock" for driving dreamers Anyway My Favo Album is "FIRE IN THE TEMPLE" Is A Must For Fans of Whiteheart Band this Album Rules!!! Even Now And Then And will always be While I Stay Alive Man This is a heart On Music, Johnny Left us Before he died But Oneday we meet you dear broth in Heaven as for now I Enjoy The Blessing you Gave us through this Mastermusic.
