REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM DESTINY:
This is Classic metal at its best. I loved the old metal from the eighties and this is like reliving those days. Sounds a bit like Sabbath with the odd Judas Priest riff here and there. Just a pity i couldn't get a hold of the lyrics. But a brilliant cd overall as there are no weak tracks. Come out of the darkness and into the Light. Get the Final Reign cd and find your Destiny. It isn't the average sounding music that is played by most bands, but it is a blend of metal/hard rock styles with originality that has become a sound of our own.Destiny has been reviewed in England by: Cross Rhythms magazine and by: Metal For Jesus in Sweden and also by: record label Blood Bought Records here in the USA. You can read the reviews on our site. Destiny has also got some air time in Belgium and made album of the month in septmember 2002. It well also have a chance to be album of the year. The radio station that played it is Planete Indie. Destiny was also played in Sweden by MetalFor Jesus and the songs crazy and Battle Of Michael had been in the metal countdown. This album begins with sound of approaching hooves and a midlantic narration, which was all a bit scary! This is quickly followed by the title track "Destiny", which is a lightly punky, old school, heavy metal track but the music quickly settles to an '80s-style metal. As ever, this album is great if you like retro-metal but there is nothing to really make sit up and take notice. The sentiments are great and you can tell they really enjoyed putting this together, but it has all been done before, a long time ago.TO THE KINGDOM:This album, the fourth from this band from Kentucky, will always be tinged with tragedy for their fans. 19-year old drummer John Wolf, a founding member of the band, was killed in a road accident shortly after completing the recording of his drum tracks for the album. He played on all four of Final Reign's albums and the band dedicate this album to his memory. Wolf's drumming is representative of the whole album; solid and interesting, yet ultimately unspectacular. The songs are well structured, with strong riffs and good driving rhythms. Technically the band are more than competent and play like they are enjoying themselves, and Billy Winter's vocals are adequate for this style of music. However several factors let this album down badly. The production is poor, causing the sound to be muffled. Stylistically the music sounds very much stuck in the 1980s, while a number of the guitar solos sound too tacked-on and don't fit with the rest of the song. Worst of all, the backing vocals are often out of key, especially noticeable on the ballad "Falling", while the lyrics, although being God-focussed and full of Biblical truth, often resort to cliché and tend to be oversimplified. A release for hardcore Fianl Reign supporters only (http://www.holymetalrob.com/) Final Reign was formed in 1998 by Clarence Long, John Wolf and Billy Winters. The lineup has changed over the years with the current lineup being Billy Winters, Justin Quinton, Clarence Long and Casey Kuhn. The band has four cds: Final Reign, Sword of the Spirit, Destiny and To the Kingdom.
