BIOGRAPHY:
Charlie Peacock was a member of the group Vector, whose debut album, Mannequin Virtue was released in 1983 on Exit Records. The band also featured Jimmy A. He began his solo recordings with Lie Down In The Grass in 1984. Charlie is a well known Producer as well, having produced many Christian artists over the years. He has won the Dove Award for Producer of the Year three times. His albums stylistically move from new wave rock to pop, dance, classic rock and jazz. He is also a very accomplished pianist and songwriter.Charlie Peacock, an intelligent CCM songwriter, producer and performer with a distinctive voice and an equal affinity for the finer points of mature songwriting (with little concession to obvious praise worship themes), has recorded for Sparrow for over a decade, produced Christian acts from Margaret Becker to the Choir and the 77's, and written several CCM hits, including Amy Grant's "Every Heartbeat." His debut album, Lie Down in the Grass, appeared in 1984 on Sparrow, followed by a self-titled 1986 LP. Concurrent to his first two albums, Peacock recorded several albums worth of loose demos, which Sparrow released as the three-volume West Coast Diaries during 1987-88 (and later reissued as a box set). Mostly due to their inferior sound quality, Peacock was termed an "alternative" presence in the CCM community, and though his respect for classic American soul came through loud and clear on 1990's The Secret of Time and the following year's Love Life, themes of sexual love explored waters uncharted for most Christian contemporary artists. Any outsider potential Peacock may have possessed exploded in 1991, when Amy Grant recorded his co-written "Every Heartbeat," and ended up at number two on the pop charts with the single. Peacock obviously had no thoughts of more chart success; his next album, Coram Deo: In the Presence of God, was a praise worship project recorded with help from Michael Card and Michael English. Much of the cause for a return to traditional forms can be attributed to both the death of his father and, at the end of 1993, the suicide of former Peacock bandmember Vince Ebo (as well, Peacock had played on Ebo's first solo album the previous year). After taking an extended hiatus to focus on his personal life, Charlie Peacock excavated his feelings on 1995's Everything That's on My Mind, the title -- plus his recent past -- providing a good pointer to its contents. His seventh proper album, Strangelanguage, wrapped around his inquisition into different musical styles, from dance to jazz to alternative rock. What a brilliant musician - what a "real" Christian - what a testimony to what the Holy Spirit can do with a mere man.

The Secret of Time:With the release of "Secret of Time," the eyes and ears of the Christian music community were finally opened wide! This album contains a collection of songs that aspire to almost near-perfection. Songs to check out include the rock/pop/blues of "Big Man's Hat," "Experience," and "Almost Threw It All Away" and the mellow pop of "Way of Love" and "Dear Friend." Many of the songs are remakes of earlier compositions (from his "West Coast Diaries" albums). REVIEW FOR LOVE LIFE ALBUM:
Love Life .Charlie Peacock is an accomplished musician/producer/songwriter, and his 1990 release "Love Life" is a classic in Christian music. So why isn't it in print? The title of the album reveals the theme behind the lyrics: each song takes a look at the various dimensions of a life lived with love as the dominating guide. The songs take on the spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical aspects of living life through the eyes of love. Stylistically, Peacock runs all over the place. "After Lovin' You" and "What's It Like In Your World" start off the album with some r&b-tinged pop. "Forgiveness" has a gospel foundation to the music, while "Personal Revolution" takes gospel towards a more straight-ahead, though mellower, pop feel. "Another Woman In Tears" is one of the strongest cuts on the album, with Charlie veering into a more overtly jazz feel. "In the Light" and "I Would Go Crazy" are more up-tempo songs with a dance vibe, the former being a far superior version than the version that DC Talk recorded for their Jesus Freak album a few years later. "There Was Love" and "When I Stand With You" are, for lack of a better term, particularly Peacock-esque - artsy songs that defy any particular definition in terms of genre. The song that deserves the most attention and, in my humble opinion, the most applause on this album is the next to last track, "Kiss Me Like a Woman." Peacock wrote this song as a celebration of the sexual relationship of he and his wife. The backlash he received from the conservative Christian majority over the "controversial" song was completely unfounded (they're MARRIED, for crying out loud), although it did not necessarily come as a surprise. Many Christian stores refused to carry the album, or would only carry it behind the cash registers, which really did a lot of harm to the sales of the album. This album holds up well, even 15 years after its initial release. I have been an admirer of Charlie's music and writing since the days of his "Lie Down in the Grass" release, but I still find Love Life to be his strongest album from top to bottom. It is a crime that Sparrow Records allowed this classic release to be taken out of print. It is well worth tracking a copy down.Peacock was DEEPLY brutally honest, vulnerable and "real" long before it was in fashion. REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(Everything That's on My Mind)
Tired of Britney-flavored Christian pop? Charlie Peacock is the way to go, and "Everything That's on My Mind" is a good place to start. Smartishly poetic, tightly played and produced, this will be one of CP's album's referred to as a great one. He brings in a candid, vulnerable heart, akin to what you hear from the late, great Rich Mullins, but with more complex, thoughtful lyrics. There's a Phil Keaggy/Beatlesque influence to some of the melodies. Fans of Daniel Amos, the 77s, and even the Lost Dogs will hear a sound they like. There is enough good old guitar rock to please John Mellencamp fans, and enough piano to make Michael W Smith fans happy. I've had the pleasure of seeing Charlie Peacock play off this album when it first came out in 1995. It was in a gym of a small Christian college in Illinois, but he played like he was at the Kennedy Center. He brings that energy to this CD. "William and Maggie" has always been a favorite for me, talking about their love for each other as they grow older and they recall some of the tough times they've had, "...He turned to his wife and he whispered/ 'Remember when I was young and you were Maggie?'" They encourage each other, noting they've had some pretty good times along they way. The chorus still hits me, "Cause I been thinkin' about you and me and everybody in between/ It seems we've suffered one too many dreams/ Of things that weren't so bad, it's just/ They were never things that we could trust/ Are we still pretending they're enough?" As he sings in "Monkeys at the Zoo," regarding how he wants his work as a musician to be for the Lord, and admitting he hasn't always been working with pure motives, "I have been a whoring after things cause I wanna get everything right/ That's a big fat lie/ No amount of green, gold or silver, the perfect body, another hot toddy/ Work for the Lord, fame & power, power and sex." It holds a power that sometimes gets lost in today's market-driven CCM music business. Charlie Peacock has varied along the alternative art rock scale. "Everything That's on My Mind" is on that continuum, but closer to pop than his earlier work, but as poignant as his "West Coast Diaries." I fully recommend "Everything That's on My Mind" by Charlie Peacock.(Charlie Peacock is not everyone's idea of good listening. In fact, in the past, I have considered him a better producer then singer. However, this CD has changed my mind completely. Sure, his words are sometimes strange and are not easy to understand. However, after more then one listen, he starts to grow on you and you are led back time and again to reflect upon the depth of his inspirational lyrics. His song 'My Father's Crown' is so beautifully written and sung. The album is dedicated to his father, who passed away in 1992 and this particular song is about his father and he considers himself 'His Father's Crown'. What a testimony to any parent!! My personal favourite is "Dear Exception" which is centred on Christ and our relationship to Him. All of these songs are incredibly deep and thought provoking and I love to listen to his most unusual style of singing. At the end of the album there is a live interview with him and it was interesting to hear why he wrote each song. Charlie Peacock is renowned for producing albums of some of the younger Christian singers and has helped many of them to stardom.
REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(Strangelanguage)
I was amazed with the first song on this album. A blend of contemporary jazz, electro pop, and alternative mix is the best way I can describe it. This is music you won't find from any other pop artist out there. Many artists can be so easily categorized, but Peacock continues to show the breadth of his music abilities and taste in his latest album. But as with many artists, I find his choice of lyrics decaying in this particular album. Although they may be sincere, he could have put more thought into his prose. There are also a number of songs that I find rather too unfamiliar as well. But songs like Strangelanguage, That's the Point, and Rocket hit home with thought provoking yet simple lyrics and a well fit music to accompany the message(http://www.holymetalrob.com)
