If you liked the first Norman "Live At Flevo" album, know that Q-Stone was Larry's backing band for that concert. This CD contains all the songs, although in slightly different order, that are on the newly reissued version on Solid Rock Records, Larry Norman Presents Q-Stone.

THIS ALBUM CONTAIN ALL THE SAME TRACKS
FROM THEIR DEBUT OF REFUGE RECORD
This is Q-Stone's Band. It is A European blues-rock at its best. Larry Norman co-wrote almost half of the songs From Once of their album "Called Live At Flevo", sang the background harmonies and performed a duet with lead singer Mikko Kuustonen. This album launched their career in Europe. If you liked the first Norman "Live At Flevo" album, know that Q-Stone was Larry's backing band for that concert. This CD contains all the songs, although in slightly different order, that are on the original Refuge Records version from 1989.http://robertigno.webs.com/

Q STONE PINK ON BLUES
This was the second album by the finnish blues-rock band Q. Stone around bandleader Mikko Kuustonen (the band's name Q. Stone actually being a pun on the name "Kuustonen"). Compared to their first self-titled effort, the funk influences are more notable here, certainly also due to the contributions of the Tower Of Power horn section. Mikko Löytty is an excellent bassist who obviously studied the masters a lot.The relaxed opener "Waiting For The Dawn" is a bit lame. Kuustonen later released a finnish version on a solo album of his, which I liked better. I generally like his singing better when he sings in finnish! The next cut, "You Should Know" is a fiery shuffle with great fluent blues licks from Hessu Silvennoinen's lead guitar, showing that he has studied SRV, too. "Shake The Tree" is the first funky number with the T.O.P. horn section. Löytty's bass line is clearly inspired by Rocco Prestia. I think the track's just great. "Walk In The Line" is a beautiful blues ballad. "Farewell Berlin" is a up-tempo shuffle, again with the T.O.P. horn section. "Freedom (Knocking On Your Door" is a funky rocker, built around a busy bassline and featuring the famous "Hendrix chord" in the verse. "Western Paradise" starts with a percussion intro that's a bit lengthy; then again a contribution of the T.O.P. horn section and some good funk riffs on this. "Talking About Love" is a song that I always felt was a bit out of place on this album. It's certainly not a bad song, but I always thought it doesn't really fit stilistically. "Air Pie" is a haunting slow blues shuffle, while "Get Up" is an up-tempo rock'n'roll number, you might compare this to SRV's "The House Is
Rockin'". Again the horns. "Rusty Bells", another beautiful ballad with crystal clear licks by guitarist Silvennoinen. "Just Dust" is a bone-dry rocker that starts with a straight groove like AC/DC or something; it later evolves into a shuffle and goes back into the straight groove. Very interesting arrangement. Great slide parts here, clearly influenced by Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top.The closer is sort of a medium slow blues I don't find particularly interesting, while it features some good guitar solo parts.I think the album is among the best the band recorded, ranking equally with the follow-up album Q. Stone III. It offers quite much stilistical variety, ranging from "pure" blues to funky stuff to rock. But the quality of the compositions isn't entirely consistent. With 14 songs on the album, it's a quite long album anyway, so they could easily have omitted one or two tracks.

Q STONE-Live at Flevo with Larry Norman
Larry Norman, one of the pioneers and living legends of Christian rock music, had this live album recorded at the Dutch "Flevo totaal" festival in 1989. His backing band was the finnish blues-rock group Q.Stone, whose first album had been produced by Norman. The band does an extremely good job here, playing funky in the right places - just listen to "Nightmare #49 (Part One)". And then, there are some great rock songs: "Twelve Good Men" and "Be Careful What You Sign" both have this cool groove to them. "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus" is performed extremely cool, too. Gotta love Larry's sloppy vocal performance on this one. And there are the uptempo songs, "Rock That Doesn't Roll" and "Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music", which must be one of Norman's better lyrics, being quite cynical in places: "They say to cut my hair, they're driving me insane, I grew it out long to make room for my brain."There are a few fillers here that just aren't as good as the rest, plus the recording sounds a bit ragged in places, which keeps me from calling the album excellent, but it easily deserves four stars.
