Canada has produced some good bands down the years - this four man team pound out some pleasantly average rock without scaling the heights of originality. Having said that, if your tastes veer to raucous rock full of ringing guitars, occasional 60's beat group throwbacks and lyrics which leave you in no doubt they are believers, this will sit nicely on your CD player. Probably the most interesting cut on this album is a re-working of "Amazing Grace" with a thunderous drum sound and the lads doing harmony interspersed with hot guitar solos which sound more English than North American. In fact the true-Brit style of lead singer Tony Valenziano is the nearest the band get to true distinctiveness. The Stand are a Chicagoan 4-piece whose previous album got a lukewarm review in CR but sounded pretty good to these old ears. An indie/alternative team, The Stand's sound takes in bits of everything from the Ramones to a dozen Brit indie teams while Tony Valenziano has a nice line in wheezing vocals while Paz Vega's lead guitar is cranked up enough to satisfy moshpit sensibilities. Standouts on 'In Three Days' were the stuttering "Billy" and a driving "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Love, Peace And Understanding" the Nick Lowe oldie, once revived by Phil And John. If you're into the Altar Boys brand of sanctified post-punk abrasion, check these dudes out.http://christianrockzone.listen2myradio.com/
