BIOGRAPHY:
Keith Green is a bit of legend in some Christian circles. His music profoundly influenced many Christian bands, singers, pastors, and leaders throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Though he died in the early 80s (a plane crash with, I believe, two of his four kids on board), what continues to make Keith Green so mesmerizing for many listeners today is his heartfelt passion for Jesus and the Church. It is an undeniable quality you can hear as he sings and also in the lyrics he penned. Green is not the most versatile musician with enormous breath in style. However, what he lacks in scope he makes up for in spades when it comes to his relevancy to most Christians... their fickle behavior... their selfishness apart from the love of Christ... their need for grace and mercy given all the frailties and shortcomings. His music, if listened to long enough, will for some individuals nag at the conscience, for others create a tear-fest, and even bring a few to their knees in prayer. And, it's all because Green sounds genuine, lived a sincere, passionate life for Christ, and had a knack for finding the right words that resonated (and still does) with many Christians. Given the current shallow teaching in many Christian circles and the weakness for what is novel, colorful, or vogue over what is true and sensible... the work of Keith Green does indeed remain timely for the current age--especially among Protestant Evangelicals.Keith Green had a passionate love for Jesus. This is evident in his life as well as in his music. He didn't preach Jesus at concerts sponsored by beer companies. He didn't get divorced and remarried. He didn't live a life of luxury off of his royalties while billions starved. He was the real deal. He was a real Christian. Much of his music consists of love songs to God, and listening to this music Keith's love for Jesus encourages me. Hearing the tender serenades of a true lover of Jesus fans the flame of the listener's own passion. It's contagious.A teen pop star whose fleeting fame was usurped by that of Donnie Osmond, Keith Green--former runaway and rock & roll bad boy--went from rabble-rouser to born-again Christian in the aftermath. By the mid-'70s he and his wife, songwriter Melody Green, dedicated their full lives and musical abilities to their faith, forming the still active Last Days Ministry, in which the music played a central focus. Tragically, Green died in a 1982 plane crash and his short but prolific career thus became of greater poignancy to the evangelical Christian community left in the wake of his passing. Green's musical message, piano pop with hard-line born-again themes and lyrics showcasing his theatrical vocals ("Most people don't find out till they're half dead / That they need another life.Keith Green was one of the first people to do Jesus Music in the late 70's. He was friends with other pioneers of Christian music like 2nd Chapter of Acts (Matthew Ward, Annie Herring and their sister Nellie) and Randy Stonehill. Keith was killed tragically in a plane crash on his own property in 1982. Like another artist who died too young, Rich Mullins, Keith was different. He didn't really belong here. He points the way to the only source of everlasting life - Jesus Christ. Though this music was recorded a long time ago, I don't think it sounds dated like some of the other early CCM - perhaps because Keith wasn't going to be around to write new stuff?? That's just something that I've thought about..

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(For Him Who Has Ears to Hear)
Keith Green was an awesome performer, piano player, preacher and strong christian. This album is one of the best debut records in the past 30 years. He came to a tragic end in a plane crash like so many other greats (Glenn Miller, Roberto Clemente, Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, etc). I still get goosebumps listening to the power inherent in every song on this album. My favorite cut is YOUR LOVE BROKE THROUGH. The lyrics really touch my heart. This was the first christian album I was ever given and I still have it on LP. For him who has ears to hear - THIS ALBUM IS FOR YOU!!!! .
Essentially, Keith was a preacher and he preached the Word through his music. However, Keith was no ordinary preacher. Through songs like:
1. You Put This Love In My Heart
2. I Can't Believe It!
3. Because Of You
4. When I Hear The Praises Start
5. He'll Take Care Of The Rest
6. Your Love Broke Through
7. No One Believes In Me Anymore
8. Song To My Parents
9. Trials Turned To Gold
10. Easter Song
Keith Green conveyed God's love to us and in turn, showed us his love to God. Keith talked about hope, about patience, about leaving our cares up to God. "For Him Who Has Ears" is Keith Green's first testitismony to the world about God. It was the first of Keith's album that led me to journey with him and even after his death, I am still using Keith's music to continue with my journey with God.

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(Songs for the Shepherd)
I cannot tell you how many tears I've shed listening to these songs and how many prayers I've sent up in response to these lyrics. I can tell you that if you love the Lord, this album should be part of your collection--if you can find it. I still have my original LP, the music book, and the songs in various Keith collections. There isn't a dud on here, but the ones that shine the most for me include his rendition of the 23rd psalm (still my fav of all versions of this most beloved of psalms). A friend of mine from my previous church, the pianist/music teacher, used to play this when we got together for fellowship, her on piano and me singing, and it's still just the most beautiful adaptation in popular music of "The Lord Is My Shepherd." Keith's vocals are full of emotion and true spiritual fervor and faith. Astonishing. Another favorite is "How Majestic Is Your Name" (Psalm 8), a song I occasionally sing a capella when moved by the night sky or a sunset or some other wonder of nature. "When I consider the heavens, the work of they fingers..." Keith's sense of wonder at God shines through this semi-meditative but passionate song.On the darker, heavier side, you get a "spiritual" called "Oh God, our Lord" which is great to sing, but not an easy subject to digest with lyrics such as: "Who you gonna throw in the lake of fire, O God our Lord? Who you gonna throw when the flames get higher, O God our Lord? The Devil and the man with the dark desire, O God our Lord." Keith really gets into it, his voice low and heavy at times, high and full of pain at others.
Another deep, difficult song describes those times when we feel in need of assistance and we can only cry to God out of our frustration and helplessness:
"My flesh is tired of seeking God,
But on my knees I'll stay.
I want to be a pleasing child,
Until that final day.
My mind is full of many thoughts
That clutter and confuse.
But standing firm, I will prevail,
In faith that I'll be used.
Amen! I'm asking once again.
Won't you help me my friend, Lord Jesus."
Keith's voice is beautiful in those lines of pleading.."won't you help me, my friend, Lord Jesus." "There Is A Redeemer" is a simple melody, simple earnest lyrics, and is so "singable" that it has earned a place in hymnals and worship services across the land. "There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God's own son. Blessed Lamb of God...Messiah! Holy One. Thank you, oh, my Father, for giving us your Son and leaving Your Spirit till your work on Earth is done." It's a basic expression of gratitude and worship and it holds up.Like his version of Psalm 23, Keith's version of "Holy, Holy, Holy" is part of the reason why that is among my most favorite of all classic hymns. I never tire of it. Those are most of the songs, and I think you will find pleasure and an encouragement to worship here. These are truly "Songs for the Shepherd" that all the sheep can treasure. Keith's earnest and passionate vocals, his skill on the piano, and the evident faith that colors all his songs shine decades after he got called home.

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUMS:(No Compromise)
Keith Green wrote and performed contemporary gospel music. His songs have tend to have a *soft rock* sound, typical for the era in which he wrote (the 70's). Some obvious resemblances include Billy Joel and Cat Stevens. Green was also an accomplished Keyboard Player, and all round musician. That is what makes these songs worth listening to even if you do not share his particular Christian message. Some of these songs are very powerful (and critical) letters written to the Christian community. Also, the way He Changes Tempo and keys keeps the songs fresh sounding. This is one of my favorite albums from The 70's. Like much of the music from that era, some of it (especially the earnestness* with which he sings) has not aged particularly well, but still is musically interesting."No empty words and no white lies. No token prayers, no compromise." (From "Make My Life a Prayer To You") "No Compromise" is not your normal uplifting Gospel album. It is instead a sharp, take-no-prisoners rebuke against worldliness and lackluster Christian worship. With one of the most direct lines in Christian music ("Jesus rose from the grave, and you...you can't even get out of bed!") Keith Green brings a prophetic message of all-out dedication to Christ and a single-minded commitment to sharing the Gospel. "No Compromise" offers one of Green's signature cuts, "Make My Life a Prayer To You" (which my wife and I used in our marriage ceremony). His "Dear John Letter (To the Devil)" is a funny ditty with a Pretty Cool Guitar Solo. And "I Don't Wanna Fall Away From You" should be the cry of every true Christian. His most convicting moments begin with the amazing "Asleep in the Light" - A Song That Radically Changed My perspective on what it meant to be a Christian. "To Obey Is Better Than Sacrifice" continues the motif of single-hearted commitment to God. The final track, "Altar Call", would end many of Green's concerts as a call to follow the narrow road and accept Christ as Lord and Savior. Though "For Him Who Has Ears To Hear" may be Green's finest moment, "No Compromise" stands alone as one of the most necessary works in contemporary Christian music. Do yourself a favor and allow the late Keith Green to lead you on the journey of sold-out dedication to Christ.Few albums have made the impact of this classic. In it Mr. Green brings his incredible talent to bear down on every Christian's tendency to let his love grow cold. God will have none of that. Mr. Green calls us to wake up with "Asleep in the Light" and "To Obey is Better than Sacrifice." He brings us to rousing, foot-stomping, dancing worship with "Stained Glass" and "The Victor." There is not a dry-eyed track or a week song in this album - every one of them is a classic. That can be said of few albums, Christian or otherwise. This album is destined to remain on the list of most influencial Christian albums for years to come(http://www.holymetalrob.com)
